The cognitive domain


• The cognitive domain involves knowledge and the
development of intellectual skills (Bloom, 1956).
• This includes the recall or recognition of specific facts,
procedural patterns, and concepts that serve in the
development of intellectual activities and skills.

Bloom’s taxonomy 1956


• 1. Knowledge – the ability to recall data and/or
information.
• 2. Comprehension – the ability to understand the
meaning of what is known.
• 3. Application – the ability to utilized an abstraction or
to use knowledge in new situation.
• 4. Analysis – the ability to distinguish or differentiate
facts and opinions.
• 5. Synthesis – the ability to integrate elements or
concepts in order to form a sound pattern or structure
so a new meaning can be established.
• 6. Evaluation - the ability to come up with judgments
about the importance of concepts.
