Consumerism

We are all used it. We are entitled for it.


Every day we spend money for foods and other commodities because it is necessary in
our day to day living but we consumers always step back on our actions on what we buy
and say to our self, it is our needs or wants?, in consumerism as a moral doctrine we
should think the moral responsibility, we have our own choice, freedom and autonomy
with that we feel happy on our deed as consumer. While, in consumerism as ideology of
conspicuous consumption it focuses on the consumption as a sign of social status and
that’s why what we buy sometimes molds our identity for some people they say that we
buy that stuff for us to be labeled as rich kid but actually we are, and sometimes we buy
those things because it is the trend on our social group. In connection to that,
consumerism as economic ideology, they produce product and we buy, repeated cycle
all over the time, they make money while we spend money and in result, we consumers
is important to make our economy runs and develop. Indeed, the consumption and
production has something to say, behind the consumption is the production, it is a
continues process. Yet, we have the thing called free will, we have our own willingness
whether we gonna buy it or not.
Moreover, the psychological and sociological consumption takes place when we
consumers buy those things for us to be feel the satisfaction and happiness, yet, we
need also to put emphasis the thing that build sincere happiness like having time with
the family not only on the material thing that we have. On the other hand, identity is
derived from psychology from Erik Erikson, as is important as it is yourself, your
representation towards others, commodity self is Stuart Ewen’s idea that a commodity is
part of one’s self-identity like how we dressed up, it is reflected to us. In fact, according
to Mach identity is a symbolic idea, it is our image in other socialization but it changes
along depend on how we build communication with others. In the same manner, there
are things that can affects our identity like in our social relations power, symbolic image
of the world. For instance, studies we are playing in the cycle of time-space for work
