100 random Encounters

1) A Brahmin named Maisy wearing a hat made of a metal colander,


metal wire and other junk to communicate “Telepathically” with its
owner a farmer named Willy Leblanc. The Brahmin is clairvoyant, and
Willy can be persuaded translate any premonitions about the pc’s for
a few caps or some alcohol. The pc’s may stumble upon Willy’s shack
when they travel and spot the strange Brahmin in a pen outside. Willy
will come out with a shotgun to deter anyone that approach the
Brahmin.

2) The pc’s hear screams of help from the bayou. If they investigate,
they find a man stuck in the swampy ground, with water up to his
chest. Feral ghouls have been alerted by the screams and are
descending upon the poor man wading mindlessly into the swamp. If
they spot the pc’s they switch their attention to them. The pc’s can
try to rescue the man but must be careful or they may end up stuck in
the mire themselves. If rescued the man thanks them and takes them
to his camp sharing some supplies with them.

3) The pc’s hear loud booms like the sound of explosions while exploring
the swamp. If they investigate, they spot a couple of men using
dynamite to fish. The fishermen will be extremely wary of strangers
and see them as encroaching on their property. If calmed they can be
convinced to trade with them, if made friendly they will invite the
pc’s to stay for dinner. If they become hostile, they will start to throw
explosives at the pc’s to scare them off.

4) A man is hauling a cart made from an old car. The cart is filled with
cages, each cage containing some sort of small wasteland critter,
stingwings, bloatflies, radroaches and molerats etc. Suddenly the
Brahmin steps on a mine in the road blowing it to pieces and covering
the man in gore. The cart topples over, and all the cages are smashed
open releasing the agitated critters who descends upon the poor man
laying on the road stunned by the blast. The pc’s have very little time
to act before the critters tear the man apart. If saved the man thanks,
the pc’s and give them some caps for saving him. He will also share
some recipes. The critters were bound to the nearest town to be used
as food.

5) A group of Kaijun slavers are having a roadside sale. They have a


large, caged wagon containing a dozen slaves and interested buyers
are inspecting it. Unless the pc’s are interested in buying the slavers
will quickly turn hostile. The slaves wear explosive collars. The raiders
have mutated dogs to defend the slaves and a machine gun turret is
mounted on top of the cage. They also have an eyebot that advertise
the sale.

6) The pc’s see a suitcase floating down the river. If fished out they see
something move inside and hear muffled noises. The suitcase is
locked with a padlock and bound with chains. If opened, they are
ambushed by an arm and legless feral ghoul stuffed inside the
suitcase.

7) The pc’s spot a watchtower among the trees. If climbed they find a
sniper nest on top with a skeleton with a bullet hole in its head sitting
on a chair with a scoped hunting rifle hanging limply from its hand.
The scope on the rifle is shattered as a bullet has gone through it. If
the pc’s look for the shooter, they may spot another tower a few
hundred yards across hidden in the woods on the opposite side. If
investigated the exact same scene can be found there down to the
clothes worn by the skeleton.

8) The pc’s find a huge crater in the middle of the woods. If searched
they will find pieces of metal and wood and some broken kegs and
jars made for storing moonshine. They will also find the scattered
remains of some poor settler.

9) The pc’s hear growling in the woods and are horrified to find dozens
of feral ghouls caught in snare traps hanging upside down from the
trees on the path they are heading.
10) The pc’s encounter a privateer steamboat. They are horrified to see
that the paddles have prisoners bound to them with barbed wire
submerging them as the paddlewheel turns. The Privateers will attack
on sight.

11) The pc’s find a trace of caps leading into the underbrush. If followed
they will eventually reach a clearing where a smiley face made of caps
is arranged. If tampered with they might trigger a bottlecap mine. If
diffused and they dig where the smiley face is located they will find a
cooler filled with Nuka Cola buried there.

12) One night while camping the pc’s hear something rummaging
through their camp. They are shocked to see a feral ghoul going
through their stuff. Instead of attacking the ghoul whimpers and
scuttles to hide. If left alone it will start to follow the pc’s helping
them in small ways like leaving gifts, although he will immediately
attack anyone or anything else the pc’s encounter.

13) A stranger invites the pc’s to his camp for some stew. The pc’s
eventually discover a foot floating in the pot. The stranger admits
he’s a cannibal but that he only wanted to fulfil his friends last wishes
not to let him go to waste.

14) The pc’s meet a ghoul child contained inside a plastic bubble. He rolls
the bubble as he walks the street. He tells the pc’s the bubble
protects him from the outside dangers. He was separated from his
parents and have wandered searching for them ever since. The pc’s
will realize he has wandered for years. If the bubble is penetrated the
boy will start to choke and wither eventually dying in agony.

15) The pc’s come to a crossroad during night. As they approach a figure
emerge from the darkness as out of thin air. It is an elegantly dressed
man in a black suit. He asks about the pc’s greatest desire and ask
them to sign his book. If they sign, he will give them a sly smile before
wandering off into the darkness seemingly vanishing, any pc’s that
signed will have their Luck permanently increased by 1 but for each
player that signed the Overseer gains 2 AP at the start of every
session for the rest of the Campaign or until that character is dead. If
attacked or none of the pc’s sign he will retreat into the darkness and
disappear, then a Deathclaw will emerge from where he vanished and
attack the pc’s.
16) While in a town the pc’s see a ghoul with a rack of cages in front of
him, each containing a radroach. The man pokes an electrified baton
at a cage and the radroach makes a hissing sound. He touches various
cages making the hissing radroaches produce music to entertain any
passers-by. Unfortunately, a drunk audience member starts to
tamper with the cages ending in him getting electrocuted and
crashing into the cages who smashes open on the ground and the
radroaches scuttle around and start to attack the audience members.

17) An eyebot passes by and claims it is the pc’s lucky day. They have
won the lottery and are now the proud owners of a brand new
corvega luxury car. It asks them to follow him to claim their prize. If
they do, they find an old outdoor exhibition fair half submerged. They
see their corvega partially protruding from the water. They see
dozens of skeletons floating in the water surrounding the car. The
pc’s are ambushed by Mr. Handys and Protrectrons hiding in the ruins
claiming the pc’s has come to steal the car.

18) The pc’s see a vertibird passing overhead. They see someone fall out
from the vertibird and land behind a hill a few hundred yards away. If
investigated they find a man wearing power armor laying in a crater.
The pc’s suddenly see him moving and he stands up. If approached he
will tell them he is testing the suit and that he has to hurry to
rendezvous with his brothers.

19) The regular radio broadcast is suddenly interrupted by creepy


chanting.

20) During the night, the pc’s see an ominous green, moving light up
ahead the road. Upon closer inspection they see a ghoul with archaic
clothing and a tophat driving an old looking elegant carriage with
shuttered windows. The ominous light comes from a glowing bloatfly
in a cage suspended from a rod above the drivers seat acting as a
lantern. The carriage will stop if it sees the pc’s and a growling
whispering voice will beckon them to come closer. He will ask them if
they are the couriers. If they answer “yes”, a bony hand will emerge
from between the blinders handing them a wax sealed letter telling
them to deliver it to the “Baron” as soon as possible. The seal is
marked with a stylised A. If opened the letter will contain a seemingly
random sequence of numbers.
21) A naked screaming man runs across the road chased by a raging
radstag.

22) The pc’s see a stack of over a dozen cars stacked precariously on top
of each other. The slightest shift could topple them over but
somehow, they are still standing. There are no signs on how they
were stacked this way.

23) The pc’s find a dead deathclaw in a clearing. It has huge claw marks
as if mauled by some massive beast. There are few signs of struggle
showing that the deathclaw didn’t put up much of a fight.

24) The pc’s find a baby carriage with a dead mole rat carefully tucked
inside with a baby bottle, a pacifier, and a teddy bear. The mole rat
has no visible wounds and seems relatively fresh. A raging woman
comes running out of the nearby bushes with a rolling pin screaming
“Don’t touch my baby!”

25) The pc’s see a group of people in hazmat suits having rounded up a
bunch of unarmed people dowsing them in gasoline before a trio of
Mr. Handys ignite them and burn them alive. They tell the pc’s the
burned people were infected with the Bayou fever and ask them to
line up for processing. A Mr. Handy wearing a doctors hat examines
them and tells the people in Hazmat suits they are infected (it will say
anyone not wearing hazmat suits they are infected). They will then be
rounded up and burned unless they defend themselves.

26) The pc’s find some corpses hanging on a rack, gutted, and skinned
like butchered animals. Their skins stretched over tanning racks
nearby. Their clotted blood gathered in buckets beneath the corpses.

27) The pc’s see a skeleton moving like a ragdoll towards them. It is
suspended from strings attached to a Mr. Handy “Puppeteer”. The
Mr. Handy refuse to acknowledge his true identity introducing
himself as the skeleton called Guillermo.

28) The pc’s come upon a “Tune-a-tron” walking down the road. The
modified protrectron has been programmed to act as a walking
jukebox. It will play any song of the pc’s choice for a few caps.
Unfortunately, it will continue to do so for hours and it will follow the
pc’s while it does possibly attract unwanted attention. It will play the
same song over and over on a loop.

29) The pc’s find a cave in which lives a yao-guai wearing a frizzled collar
and a clown hat. Inside lies a mauled corpse wearing a clown outfit
and a broken unicycle.

30) The pc’s find a cluster of crawfish traps along the shore. They contain
mirelurk hatchlings and if disturbed a group of mirelurks emerge from
the water to attack the pc’s.

31) The pc’s hear a radio in the distance. Following the signal, it comes
from a boat resting atop a tree. If they can reach it, they may find
some supplies, but climbing there may prove dangerous. The radio
signal is distorted and repeats. It sounds like a random sequence of
numbers read in a monotone voice.

32) The pc’s meet a group of raiders playing bowling with skulls and
decapitated heads as balls and nuka cola bottles as pegs. If made
friendly they will invite the pc’s to a game but will become hostile if
they lose.

33) Someone has blocked passage down the river with several car wrecks
with a massive chain running through them. The chain is suspended
from nearby trees on the shore. A group of Privateers demand a toll
for using the river. Even if the toll is paid, they will try to kill any
travelers.

34) While collecting water from the river the pc’s notice an unusually
high rad count. If they investigate, they notice a cluster of radioactive
barrels floating downstream contaminating the water.

35) The pc’s find an old camp hidden in the bayou. A large confederate
flag is suspended between two large trees and a large, charred cross
with a crucified stands below in the middle of the camp. A dozen feral
ghouls clad in Ku Klux clan robes are roaming the area. Three
skeletons hang suspended with ropes around their necks from a
nearby tree.
36) Two skeletons stand posed to play table tennis in the middle of the
bayou.

37) A feral ghoul trapped in a life preserver rushes down the river past
the pc’s.

38) Suddenly it starts to rain small glowing frogs.

39) While walking down a forested path a shopping cart rigged with
explosives roll out from the underbrush towards the pc’s. They have
seconds to act before it explodes.

40) A cluster of eyebots silently starts to follow the pc’s, skittering around
them as if observing them. If attacked they attack back. They follow
for a few hours before they stop and leave.

41) The pc’s hear whistling. If they follow the sound, they find a man with
an axe stuck in the back of his head sitting in a camp cooking some
radroach meat. He seems happy to see the pc’s signalling them top
share his meal, but he has trouble speaking and moving normally. He
seems oblivious to his injury. If the axe is removed, he dies.

42) A Brahmin covered in bloodleeches comes crawling out of the bayou


collapsing almost dead in front of the pc’s. With the brahmin dead
they turn their attention to the pc’s.

43) While camping in the swamp a foul, glowing green fog washes over
their camp. The fog is highly radioactive and almost impenetrable.
The pc’s hear terrifying noise from the boog crawler hidden within.

44) The pc’s find a staircase standing alone, leading nowhere, in the
middle of the bayou. There are no other sign of buildings or
structures.

45) The pc’s find small dolls with an eerie resemblance of themselves,
pinned to a tree with a strange symbol carved into it.
46) The pc’s find a huge tree on an island in the middle of the bayou
covered in toilet paper. A single toilet stands below it.

47) The pc’s see something suspended in the treetops, if they investigate,
they find a bathtub with a skeleton holding an accordion in it.

48) The pc’s hear clanking noises and low growls coming from the inside
of a nearby house. If they investigate, they find a feral ghoul with a
bucket stuck on its head crashing around inside.

49) The pc’s hear someone play a sombre blues song on a guitar. They
see an old man sitting on a chair on the roof of a house playing and
singing while a horde of feral ghouls surround the house.

50) The pc’s are stopped by a patrolling police protectron while walking
down the road. The protectron shows the pc’s a picture and asks if
they have seen this woman. Regardless of what they answer the
protrectron moves along but stops to say, “I’ll be back”.

51) The pc’s spot a safe on the top floor of a roofless partially submerged
building on the other side of the water. The roofs of submerged
buildings and floating debris can act as a path by jumping from roof
to roof. The buildings are rotten and may collapse. The water is highly
radioactive and filled with bloodleeches. If cracked the pc’s may find
some goodies in the safe.

52) The pc’s find a hole filled with Holo tapes, all containing the game
Z.E.T (Zetan extra-terrestrial).

53) The pc’s see a farm field filled with toilets, each toilet acting as a
flowerpot for the tatos that they grow. The field is infested with Mole
rats and the owners will pay the pc’s to exterminate them.

54) The pc’s hear a muffled noise from the trunk of a car. If they manage
to break the lock, they find a gagged and bound man inside.
55) A traffic police protectron robot will stop travellers from crossing the
road until all the cars have passed. Unfortunately, all the cars lie quite
dead on this stretch of road.

56) A man cuddles his dead, decomposing girlfriend, refusing to believe


she is dead although she died nearly a month ago.

57) The pc’s spot a herd of large healthy brahmin, their drovers are a
little behind and roping in run-offs, they take their cattle serious, and
are hard on rustlers.

58) The pc’s encounter a group of survivors struggling to build a


makeshift shelter.

59) A Mr. Farmhand is trying desperately to herd a group of wild Radstags


believing them to be his lost cattle.

60) The pc’s find an elderly man injured by the road. If they help him back
to his shack where his family is, they try and attack them, rob and eat
them.

61) The pc’s find an unexploded mini-nuke lodged in the ground. They
may try to remove it without detonating it if they are willing to take
the risk.

62) The pc with the lowest LCK steps on a landmine. The mine may be a
dud or it might explode.

63) The pc’s spot a military crate amongst a cluster of radioactive barrels
on a small island in the swamp.

64) The pc’s hear a single gunshot and see a small group hiding behind
some ruins waving them over. A sniper is targeting them. If the pc’s
ignore the warning the sniper will start taking pot shots at them
instead.
65) The pc’s spot a man hiding a top a tree in the swamp while angry
mirelurks surround him from below. The man is out of ammo and
exhausted.

66) A row of greenhouses. In the greenhouses you can see neat rows of
fruit bearing plants. On closer inspection, you find skeletal remains in
the greenhouse in among the plants. The fruit from the plants is in
fact safe to eat.

67) A camp surrounded with cages. In the cages you see mutated animals
of every kind. The people running the camp are cowboys of the
wasteland. They capture, train, herd, & hunt mutant animals. They
sell animals for mounts, work animals, or guard animals. They also
sell a cookbook for various things found in the wasteland, and a book
on how to make toxic or radiated plants and animals safe to eat.

68) A group of gunners shows up, in big armored vehicles. They attack
the party on sight, and refuse to speak with them in any way, but will
not hunt them down if they try to escape.

69) A man on a chariot pulled by a Radstag comes by, selling toilet paper
for outrageous prices.

70) The pc’s encounter a group of people wearing Nuka Cola branded
clothing bowing down as if worshipping a Nuka Cola advertisement
board. They are members of a cult worshiping Nuka Cola and will
violently attack the pc’s if they refuse to offer it to them.

71) The pc’s see three fresh bodies, an adult woman and two children, a
girl, and a boy, with bullet holes in their heads laying on the ground. A
man sits kneeling next to them a gun to his temple, desperately
squeezing the trigger but it is out of bullets.

72) The pc’s see a mutated dog herding a flock of hairless cats. If
approached it is furiously defensive of the cats but can be calmed
with some food.

73) A flea market set up by the road, selling old circuit boards and similar
paraphernalia. On closer inspection, the customers are buying them
as armour, believing the electronics to have special protective
powers.

74) The pc’s encounter an old woman pulling a cart full of bones and
skulls. She offers to buy bones and skulls from the pc’s. She touches
the pc’s to feel their bones beneath their skin with disturbing
eagerness.

75) The pc’s spot a large generator spewing smoke on the side of the
road. A thick wire is connected to it and leads into the wilderness. If
followed they see that the wire is connected to an electric chair
containing a charred corpse.

76) A man sells bloatfly balloons which are just basically bloatflies
attached to strings. For some reason they do not attack the seller, but
buyers may not be so lucky.

77) A man is digging around for treasures using his trained molerat
Mulder.

78) Suddenly the pc’s are under fire. They hear someone say they are
sorry and that they did not mean to shoot. If the pc’s continue
approaching the voice, they are shot at again with the same apology
given. They will continue being shot at and apologized to until they
deal with the shooter or escape.

79) Someone has made a maze in the woods by attaching barbed wire
between the trees to make a fence. The wire is electrified by a nearby
generator. Suddenly the pc’s hear something growling as they are
chased through the maze by some sort of beast.

80) The pc’s see dolls hanging from the trees in the swamp. If followed
the dolls leads to a pit filled with doll parts, hundreds of dolls.

81) The pc’s find a roadside inn. The inn is abandoned, there are no signs
of violence, but the lights are on and there are fresh food on the
stove but there are no signs of any occupants.
82) The pc’s encounter a Mr. Handy walking a dog.

83) The pc’s spot a Corvega that looks brand new in the middle of the
road amongst the other burned-out cars. It is functional but has no
power.

84) The pc’s find a large stretch of road covered in random sequences of
numbers.

85) The pc’s hear jazz music and they see a funeral parade coming down
the street heading for a nearby graveyard. They urge the pc’s to join
them.

86) While exploring a ruin the pc’s hear the roof crack and a huge safe
falls through the roof down on them. A couple of looters peek out of
the hole demanding to leave the safe to them. If the pc’s refuse the
looters attack.

87) A prostitute approaches the pc’s. It soon becomes obvious the


prostitute is a ghoul and refuses to leave the pc’s alone unless they
pay regardless of whether they want their service or not. If they
refuse the prostitute will call on her handlers to deal with the
“difficult” customers.

88) The pc’s are caught in the crossfire of two rival groups.

89) The pc’s hear explosions. If investigated they see someone is playing
baseball using baseball grenades.

90) A partially dissected man, his skin stretched open to reveal muscle,
sinew, and organs, is tied to a tree. If approached the pc’s learn that
he is still alive.

91) The pc’s are walking down the street when they are suddenly
showered with piss. A man is relieving himself on them from the top
of a building.
92) The pc’s see two men loading crate upon crate of Molotov cocktails.
They refuse to tell the pc’s what they are for.

93) An ice cream truck with a working cooler pulled by a brahmin is


selling cold beverages.

94) A flock of mutated birds starts to gather around the pc’s, hundreds of
them perched on trees and telephone wires silently watching.

95) A group of fishermen is trying to get a mirelurk caught in their nets


aboard their boat. If the pc’s offer to help they will share some of the
mirelurk meat with them.

96) A ghoul wearing a tattered, dirty suit and a fedora and carrying a
suitcase is walking aimlessly down the road. He says he is down on his
luck and asks to tag along. In the suitcase is his trumpet and he is a
very skilled musician.

97) The pc’s are suddenly pelted by random junk raining from the sky.
The source a man laughing maniacally as he fires a junk jet into the
air.

98) A man offers stimpaks at reduced prices with no strings attached, he


promises.

99) The pc’s find a voodoo shrine next to a tree with a freshly decapitated
chicken on it. A strange symbol is painted in blood on a nearby tree.

100) A man offers the pc’s a reward if they can capture and restrain a
living radtoad. If they do and deliver the beast the man starts to lick
its warty back with fervor.
