INTRODUCTION:-
The constant intensification of urbanized areas resulting in microclimate
deterioration, high expansion and air pollution and dust pollution levels, as well as
noise provoking a response and a rise in urban greenery, is currently observed.
Vertical gardens are becoming a common component in contemporary garden
designs at urban living space because of shrinking land spaces. Successful growing
of plants in vertical garden systems depends up on growing container, plants
chosen, growing media.
Vertical gardening in urbanization area provide ecosystem services in urban areas,
including improved storm-water management, better regulation of building
temperatures, reduced urban heat-island effects, and increased urban wildlife
habitat.

BACKGROUND OF STUDY:-
Vertical grading are the use of vertical stand space to grow flower, vegetable,
fruits, herbs etc. vertical garden cover less space, easy to harvest, easy to
install, Easy to maintain, however the vertical gardens have some limitations
which it has to follow.Vertical gardens need proper wall space in sunny path.
The support structure should have enough stability, rigid and strong. The
structure should be at such height so that it could be maintained by the other
party. The supporting structure design according to the need of green
vegetation Proper soil nutrition is needed for growing garden.
The growing medium is the most important component that decides the
success of a vertical garden system. Increasing cost of these media components
and shortage of the mineral media like peat, perlite and vermiculite are the
reasons to find suitable alternative components from organic manures and
hydrogel compounds for plant growing containers used in vertical garden
system. Further, restricted volume of media and competition due to higher
planting density may cause a confined root system.

RESEARCH AIM AND OBJECTIVES :-
Now a days we all are talking about green and clean environment and this green is
related to building facade, livingwall, and vertical freestanding structure. Here we
understand about vertical green garden which is very widely spread all over the
world turns to good symbol of sustainable life. Vertical Garden is also called green
wall, living wall, green garden which is totally and partially filled with vegetation.
Including vegetation also filled with some of the soil medium, which depend on the
types of plant and shrubs that we use in any vertical frame. Most Green walls also
features as integrated water system. It is useful to distinguish green walls from
Green Facades. We improve green wall function by understanding the interactions
between its ecosystem elements, especially the relationships among growing
media, soil biota, and vegetation, and also use of freestanding frame and building
facade.
Further things into green wall maintaining should assess the efficacy of green
garden compared to other maintenance with similar ends, and ultimately focus on
estimates of aggregate benefits at landscape scales.

RELEVANCE OF STUDY :-

SELECTION OF PLANTS FOR VERTICAL GARDENING AND GREEN ROOF FARMING.

The choice of plant species for vertical gardens is strictly dependent on climate
conditions and exposure of the wall. The plants should be light, their root system
must be spreading and not of the pile form. It is also important to choose
evergreen plants, so that a vertical garden will fulfill its role throughout the
whole year. Life expectancy is an important factor while calculating the cost of
green wall exploitation. It is recommended to choose mosses, ornamental
grasses, perennials, shrubs which live a few to dozens of years with a high
tolerance to environmental pollution.
Aging and withered plants should be replaced during a garden maintaining
process of minimum every half year. The use of different plant species including
herbs, grasses, perennials and trees help to make the roof-scape a natural
environment. It should look like two wide ladders propped against each other,
the steps of the ladder supporting different levels of planting.

Vertical Gardening can be done for Indoor as well as Outdoor Purposes. For a
Smaller size Vertical Gardens like below 100 sq ft you can manually water the
area but for areas above 100 sq ft you can have drip irrigation System to Water
the Vertical Gardens.
For Vertical Gardens you would require a simple MS Steel Structure if you have
a Wall support however if the Wall in not there you are required to make a
Strong Structure to Support the Weight of the Vertical Garden Modules and
Panels . The Cost of Vertical Gardens varies between Rs.650 per sq ft to
Rs.1600 per Sq ft depending upon a number of Factors such as the System you
choose, Structure, Design, Plants, Irrigation System, Location etc.
VERTICAL GARDEN ORIENTATION Most vegetables need full sun, or at least 5-6
hours of bright light to do their best. Unless they have sufficient light for
photosynthesis, they cannot manage to make food themselves and for us. The
orientation of your vertical garden determines the amount of light each plant
receives An A-frame vertical garden set up in full sun out in the garden helps
you grow maximum food in minimum space since you can grow plants all
around the frame. southwestern exposure to grow high-light plants.

DISCUSSION:-
Results of the present experiment envisaged that the growth parameters viz.,
days taken for establishment, plant height, number of shoots/branches, shoot
girth, number of leaves plant- and leaf area were significantly increased due to the
addition of organic growing media components and hydrogels (Table 1). In
general, addition of hydrogels viz., Stockosorb and Geohumus performed better
than the coir pith in growing media as a component. Enhancement of growth in
all the three ornamental plants due to above mentioned two growing media
combinations might be attributed to the addition of vermicompost and hyogels
particularly Stocksorb and Geohumus in addition to normal components of a
growing media like red soil and river sand. The positive influence of hydrogel
compounds on ornamental plants in the vertical plant growing containers might
be due to the facts that hydrogels maintain a conductive soil environment.
Among the organic components used in media, vermicompost performed better
in terms of all the growth parameters of the ornamental plants.Enhancement of
growth in all the three ornamental plants due to above mentioned two growing
media combinations might be attributed to the addition of vermicompost and
hyogels particularly Stocksorb and Geohumus in addition to normal components
of a growing media like red soil and river sand.

CONCLUSION:
Vertical garden is all about indoor and outdoor upwards and up stands design, which is,
grow in vertical straight surfaces. It can applicable on wall of any kind of building. Vertical
garden help to cool the environment .It give fresh air and aesthetic look also insulate the
building too and reduce the cost of air conditioning. Growing plant in the Building can help
to filter air particle and help to control air quality as well as some level of humidity. It also
helps to save water by reducing the need for irrigation and watering. Here we understand
about vertical green garden which is very widely spread all over the world which is very
good symbol of sustainable life. Today, with the rapid growth of industrial cities, where
fifty percent of the world`s population dwell, plants can provide better air quality, in the
meantime sustaining the wellbeing of the environments, human health and the
psychological aspect.
