3. Two water taps together can fill a tank in 9 hours. The tap of larger diameter
8

takes 10 hours less than the smaller one to fill the tank separately. Find the time

in which each tap can separately fill the tank.

4. Find the nature of the roots of the following quadratic equation. If the real roots

exist, find them: 3x 2  4 3x  4  0

5. Find the values of k for the quadratic equation kx( x  2)  6  0 with 2 equal roots.

6. PQ is a chord of length 8cm of a circle of radius 5cm. The tangents at P, Q

intersect at a point T . Find the length TP .

7. Two concentric circles are of radii 5cm and 5cm. Find the length of the chord of

the larger circle which touches the smaller circle.

8. Prove that the angle between the two tangents drawn from an external point to

a circle is supplementary to the angle subtended by the line-segment joining the

points of contact at the centre.

9. Prove that the parallelogram circumscribing a circle is a rhombus.

10. Prove that opposite sides of a quadrilateral circumscribing a circle subtend

supplementary angles at the centre of the circle.
