Class Participation Activities (15%)
– Competency Quizzes (~7%)
●
Assess basic competency in focused topics with easier questions, generally taken after reading material and/or watching a lecture video
●
Administered as a quiz in canvas through the LockDown Browser, one question at a time, no returning to previous questions, unlimited time
●
Three attempts allowed before the due date with final score as the maximum of all your attempts
– Mastery Quizzes (~3%)
●
Assess mastery in focused topics with more difficult questions, generally taken after corresponding competency quiz
●
Administered as a quiz in canvas through the LockDown Browser, one question at a time, no returning to previous questions, unlimited time
●
Three attempts allowed before the due date with final score as the maximum of all your attempts
– Challenge Quizzes (optional, ~0.33% extra credit)
●
Optional opportunity to stretch your knowledge on focused topics, generally taken after corresponding mastery quiz
●
Administered as a quiz in canvas through the LockDown Browser, one question at a time, no returning to previous questions, time limited (may vary between quizzes)
●
One attempt allowed before the due date
– Review Quizzes (~5%)
●
Combine together multiple focused topics (~15-20) with competency and mastery questions in one quiz, generally completed for each chapter
●
Administered as a quiz in canvas through the LockDown Browser, one question at a time, no returning to previous questions, unlimited time, but encouragement to keep track
of your time in preparation for the exam
●
Two attempts allowed with final score as the average of your attempts
●
Written Exercises (10%)
– Written Exercises
●
Combine together multiple focused topics (~2-5) to solve a broader problem, generally completed after all relevant topics have been covered in quizzes
●
Administered as an assignment that may be printed, annotated electronically, or written on blank paper
●
Completed assignment will be scanned as a pdf and uploaded to gradescope

Exams (60%)
– Combine together multiple focused topics (~30-40) with competency and mastery questions in one exam,
– Administered as a quiz in canvas through the LockDown Browser, one question at a time, no returning to
previous questions, limited time (expected to be 2-3 hours), Respondus Monitor will be required to use your
webcam to record yourself and your workspace for the duration of the exam
– One attempt
– There may be a separate written component to the exams, but this is not expected

Laboratory Assignments (10%)
– Programming assignments in Matlab and Simulink to complement the material covered in quizzes, and
written exercises
– Assignment will be generated and/or scanned as a pdf and uploaded through canvas or gradescope
●
Laboratory Quizzes (5%)
– Quizzes covering material from multiple (~3) lab assignments
– Administered as a quiz in canvas through LockDown Browser, one question at a time, no returning to
previous questions, limited time (expected to be ~1 hour)
