La Conserverie Buzet sur Baise. Gite Guest guide version 2.5 January 2022
Introduction
Welcome to Buzet sur Baise! This short guide is intended to make your stay more enjoyable. Please let me
know if you discover any attractions not listed, or if there is anything which we have omitted
[lphaig2@gmail.com].
Our daughter, Clare, and her husband Jean-Pierre run ‘Cycle Southwest’, a cycle hire and repair business
based opposite the SPAR shop in the High St [Boulevard de la Republique]. They live next door but one
along Rue de Ramounas towards the Mairie. Please call her if you need anything, either bicycle or
accommodation related [0033 785 145 617].
History:
L’Ancienne Charcuterie (and 18 Rue Maurice Luxembourg, which forms part of the complex) were
originally two adjacent houses built at different times. They were constructed approximately 200 years
ago. The Gite was originally the workshop/kitchen of the Charcuterie.
Buzet village was originally (early Mediaeval period) situated around the Chateau where the remains of the
original church are still visible. The village migrated to its current position in the mid 19 th Century when the
Canal La Garonne was constructed to link the Canal du Midi (from the Mediterranean) to the Atlantic at
Bordeaux.
The street levels of the building have been, variously, a Restaurant, Boucherie (butchers shop), and
Charcuterie (delicatessen). The metal Charcuterie sign on the kitchen wall was discovered on the ground
floor during the restoration works. The family that owned the house in the early part of the 20 th Century
also owned the village cinema, the remains of which can be seen a short distance up the Rue Maurice
Luxembourg on the other side of the road.
We have owned the property since 2017, during which time it has been completely refurbished. Work
continues to the front apartment on the ground floor.
The photographs at the back of this guide show some of the refurbishment activity.

Terrace:
Please use the lower terrace, which is for the exclusive use of clients of the Gite.
Note that the decking/white tables and chairs. garden, pool and main BBQ are included as part of the
rental of the main Apartment and are therefore unavailable. Please respect the privacy of other guests.

Kitchen
You will find coffee and tea on the worksurface. Please help yourself, though if on a long stay grateful if
you could replenish [SPAR shop] any that you finish, for the benefit of future guests. Milk is in the fridge
for your use. Fresh croissants etc are available from the Boulangerie Meynet [opens 7.15 am, closed
Mondays](2 min walk) or SPAR (5 min).
Wine can be purchased from the SPAR shop (6 min walk), or from the Cave cooperatif (15 min walk/5min
drive)
Operating the Induction hob:
Hob:
Operation is touch sensitive. Press power button to switch on. If ‘Lo’ appears, it means that the controls
are locked. This is a safety feature, though it often switches itself into this mode when cleaning it.
To release, just press and hold for about 10 seconds.
To operate, select the desired hob and then use the + and – buttons to increase or decrease heat.
It is very controllable. After you have switched off a particular hob, ‘Hi’ appears whilst it remains hot. This
is normal.
Please take care NOT to operate without water / other contents in the saucepans as this causes damage.
