Good Reasons to Study Mechanical

Engineering at the University of Sheffield
The 2008 NatWest Student Living Index rated Sheffield's living costs as the third lowest
compared with 26 university towns and cities.

The 2008 Research Assessment Exercise independently assessed research carried out by staff
in every university department in the country and placed us second in the country for
Mechanical Engineering.

The Department has an active student society called MechSoc (see page 17), which organises
a variety of extra-curricular activities, helping you to get to know your course mates.

As a first year you will be assigned a personal tutor who you will meet with twice a week.

Our Students’ Union has just had a £5 million refurbishment and has won ‘Students’ Union of
the Year’ four times since 2001.
