B2-Scenarios

Scenario for Frank Miller

Task: Enjoy the contents of a book but have his weekends free for outdoor activities

Frank wakes up, gets ready for work and leaves. His workday starts at 9 AM, and as soon as he gets to work, he greets his team
and they start working on the project they are currently assigned to. Frank and his team are expected to come up with the best
possible since they are one of the strongest teams which have been excelling continuously at their domain for the past few years.
After a few hours have passed, Frank already feels tired enough so he takes a small food break. During his breaks, he often thinks
about how much reading a good book after all of this stress would help him significantly and could possibly improve the quality of his
work.
Suddenly, he remembers that he has “Speechax” so he opens up the internet and downloads a book in PDF format. He opens up
the app, logs into his account on the work phone, he presses on “new project”, then on “import” and imports the PDF book into the
app to save it for later.
After he finishes his work, Frank gets into his car and connects his car speakers via Bluetooth on his phone. Frank goes into
“Speechax”, logs into his account on his personal phone, opens up the project that he created earlier. He presses “play” and he enjoys
the first few chapters of the book while he is driving home slowly and calmly. Frank can add as many books and create as many
projects as he likes since there is no limit on the number of projects that he can create, as long as his smartphone has enough free
storage space.

Scenario for Joe Carling

Task: Review his notes before exam while riding the bus or the metro

Joe had a full day today at university and tomorrow he has an exam in the morning. He had a little bit of time to look over his
notes before going to sleep but he still feels like that is not enough. Staying up late isn’t an option because getting enough sleep is
crucial for Joe.
He wakes up in the morning and he chooses the most important parts of his notes. After that, he opens up “Speechax” and
selects “new project” and names it “Exam notes for today (Monday)”. After this he presses on the “scan page” button and his phone
allows him to take a picture. He takes a picture of the first page, selects the “Add to project” button and he repeats these steps until all
of the pages needed are scanned. The process took Joe about 5 to 10 minutes.
Joe brushes his teeth, gets dressed and leaves his house. Joe gets on the first bus and since it’s a busy day, like every Monday,
the bus is very crowded. Joe picks up his phone, starts up “Speechax”, selects the “Exam notes for today (Monday)” project and
presses play to start listening to his scanned notes. Joe suddenly hears the definition of something getting explained so he opens up
the app again and presses the “highlight last idea” button to save the last seconds that he heard.
Joe arrives at university and looks one more time on the highlighted notes quicky before he goes into the exam room. His notes
are freshly written onto his brain so he manages the exam very well. He also got a question right where it asked him to write the same
definition that he highlighted while he was on his way. Lucky Joe ;)

Scenario for Emily Silver

Task: Keep up with her classmates and the things taught at school
Emily gets up in the morning and her mom helps her get ready and after she packs her lunch, she drops her off at school. The
first class starts and the kids are required to work on a text, select some words from it, and write down the synonyms of them. After 10
minutes go by, the kids start raising their hands one by one showing that they’re done while Emily still struggles and barely went
through half of the text. Even when the class talks about the answers, Emily loses focus from time to time and misses some
information. The teacher knows about her problems so after the class, she hands Emily a paper with the notes for her to revise at
home.
After school, Emily’s mom picks her up and they go home where they talk about Emily’s day in school. Her mom found out the
“Speechax” app and decides to try and show Emily how it works. The mom creates a new project and calls it “Emily 13.03.2020
(Monday)” so the girl knows exactly all the details. Then, she scans the page that the teacher gave to Emily and lets Emily press play.
The girl looks interested when she hears the notes but she says that the voice goes a little bit too fast. Emily’s mom lets her
select the play speed and Emily sets it to x0.7 and presses play again. This way, Emily seems to be satisfied and she can focus more
easily on the notes. After the recording finished, Emily is happy that she understood better what was taught in class today and she
might continue to use the app in the future too in order to catch up with school.

Scenario for Chin-Sun

Task: Improve her English skills and visit the UK while doing her best at university
It’s the third week of Chin-Sun in the UK and also her third week going to university this year. It’s the last day of the week, Friday,
and it was full of lectures for Chin-Sun. In one of the classes, she didn’t understand a few words and ideas because of the strong accent
that her lecturer had. After University, Chin-Sun got home at 8 PM and she was very tired so she couldn’t study more today so she
decided to listen to some music and go to sleep. She really wanted to travel, visit and explore her city this weekend but the fact that
she needs to catch up with the class stays on her mind.
She wakes up quite early and after she showers and has breakfast, she searches on the internet for the literature that was
recommended by her lecturer and downloads it in PDF format. She then opens up “Speechax”, creates a new project for the lecture
that she lost track of on Friday and decides to add the scanned PDF to the project. She then looks over the text and highlights the
words or phrases that she is not familiar with and plays them a view time to hear their pronunciation. After that, she uses the
dictionary function to translate them to Japanese and see what they mean exactly.
Chin-Sun creates then a new project with the same document as before, but she translates it all to Japanese, she is all set. Now,
the girl gets ready and leaves to enjoy her Saturday and explore the city. Meanwhile, in her headphones she is playing the literature,
first in Japanese and then in English. This day has been productive and fun too, she managed to catch up with the Friday lecture and
also stick to her plan of visiting new parts of the city.

Scenario for Julie Sanders

Task: Enjoy her favorite literature without putting strain on her eyes

Julie woke up, very early as usual, so she could take her daily morning pills. After that she ate breakfast and after a little bit of
time passed by, she received a phone call from her daughter, informing her that she will come for a quick visit today. Her daughter
arrived after a few hours and they spent some time together just talking about life and things in general.
Of course, at one point Julie started talking again about how much she would love to read a book sometimes but because of her
vision she can barely enjoy a few pages before it becomes more of a burden. Her daughter asks what book she would like to read so
Julie goes and pulled it out of the bookshelf. After that, the woman told her mother about “Speechax” and proceeded to explain how it
worked, scanning the first few pages of the book as an example. They used Julie’s smartphone which has the minimum 4Mp camera
required to use the scan function.
Julie found the app easy to use and she was impressed but she said that the voice that was reading out the text was quite
annoying. Julie saw a button that said “register your own voice” so she pressed it and saw that her app made her say out a few words
and assign a name to the registered voice, so she named it “Me” and set it as the default voice. She was thrilled to see that the voice
reading out the book now sounded almost exactly like her.
To make life even easier for her, the woman showed her mother how she can search for almost any book on the internet and
download it on her phone as a PDF document. Julie was very grateful for finding out about this app and felt very relieved that she
solved her problem.
