named Sarah Peterson, Ava, an
Honorary State FFA Degree
recipient at the 93rd Missouri
FFA Convention. For 12 years,
Peterson has served as an
agriculture education teacher
and FFA advisor. She currently
teaches at the Mansfield R-IV
School District.
She previously taught at Sum-
mersville R-II, St. James R-I
and Steelville R-III. During
her time teaching, Peterson has
been a member of the Missouri
Vocational Agriculture Teach-
ers Association and National
Association of Agricultural
Educators.
Peterson’s students have
received seven American FFA
Degrees; 18 State FFA Degrees;
several state gold, silver and
bronze chapter awards; and
13 first-place area proficiency
chapters also have received
one 3-Star National Chapter
Award and two 2-Star National
Chapter Awards. Peterson said
one of her greatest accomplish-
ments is having two students
become agricultural educators.

RAYMOND GENE JENNINGS EDITH ANN MOORE
HOUSTON, MISSOURI HOUSTON, MISSOURI

Raymond Gene Jennings, 93, of Houston, passed
away May 6, 2021 at Texas County Memorial Hospital,
Houston. He was born July 15, 1927 in Thornfield to
William and Nellie (Hargis) Jennings. He grew up
around Thornfield and graduated high school in Man-
teca, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents;
his wife, Mary; five brothers; four sisters; a son, Greg-
ory Jennings; and a daughter, Charlotte VanNoordt.
Raymond is survived by three sons, Mike Jennings,
Dwight (Carmen Plaza) Jennings and Melvin (Linda)
Jennings; three daughters, Yvonne (Steve) Cope,
Tabatha (Pat) Jolly and Patricia Lowrance; 16 grand-
children, Penny, Michelle, Estabon, Amara, Bradley,
Brian, Lori, Eric, Shelly, Scott, Charlotte, Greg, Jr, Jed,
Justin, Joel and Celine; numerous great-grandchildren;
and many other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Raymond married Mary Crisp Feb. 4, 1966 in Miami,

Okla. Following retirement, they moved to Houston,
they attended Houston Seventh Day Adventist Church. Mary preceded him in
death in 2011. Raymond worked constructed throughout Missouri and Illinois.
He enjoyed gardening, hunting, grandkids, his church and helping others. A joy

was to teach others about the Bible, and the love of the Lord. He will be greatly
missed by his family, friends, and church family.
In lieu of flowers, Memorials are suggested to the Houston Seventh Day Adven-

com. Services were held Tuesday May 11, 2021 at 1 p.m. at Houston Seventh Day
Adventist Church with Pastor Brett Randall officiating.
Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery under the direction of
Evans Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Joel Jennings, Pat
Jolly, Brad Cope and Brian Cope.
Edith Ann Moore, daughter of Willard and Emma
Lou LaFollette Matney, was born Oct. 23, 1967,
in Marshfield, and left this Earth for her heaven-
ly home on April 30, 2021, at Mercy Hospital in
Springfield at the age of 53 years, 6 months and 7
days. On Oct. 14, 1983, she was united in marriage
to Rex Allen Moore, and they had two beautiful
children, Jeffrey and Amber. She was preceded in
death by her parents; two sisters, Connie West and
Sue Langston; two half-brothers, Bill Cassy and
Dale Cantrell; half-sister Frances Stevens; grandson,
Brison Cole Coffman; and two nephews, Lonnie
Bell and Christopher Cassy. Edith is survived by

Schools. She lived and worked here for many years before moving to Nixa, where
she lived at the time of her passing. Edith was a hard worker. She started out as
a volunteer at Ozark Action Headstart, working her way up to Social Services/
Teachers Assistant and substitute bus driver for many years. She also worked
at MFA Oil as secretary/bookkeeper and Hamilton Properties for several years,
often having a second job as a cashier at Lazy Lees, selling Home Interiors or
cleaning houses. She did what she had to do to provide for her kids as a single
mom. In her spare time, Edith loved spending time with her grandbabies, family
and friends, trips to the lake and making us all laugh. She enjoyed decorating
her home, especially during the holidays, doing arts and crafts, and repurposing
things, either to sell or give to someone in need. Edith loved helping people,
especially the homeless. She had a unique collection of skull items, and was
always looking for more. Edith was a very special loving and caring mom, nana,
sister, aunt, friend and neighbor to all. She will always be loved and remembered
with love, laughter, and a huge smile, that would light up any room. We cele-
brate her life today and all the memories we will cherish forever. Services were
held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at Holman-Howe Funeral Chapel
in Mansfield with Pastor Ronnie Roy. Recorded musical selections included
“Delta Dawn,” “How They Remember You,” “I Won’t Let Go” and “Victory in
Jesus.”Honorary escorts were Mike Matlock, Tim Rhodes, Bradley Henry and
Joseph Bell. Escorts were Michael Perrin, Bob Perrin,
Shannon Matney, Darron Nichols, Rodney Cantrell
and Jarrett Nichols. The final resting place was in the
Seymour Masonic Cemetery in Seymour.

Jones works as a refer-
ral coordinator in the
Medical Office Complex.
She has been employed
at TCMH for seven and
a half years. Melissa
Sigman, clinic manager,
nominated Jones for the
award.
“Rhonda is a very ded-
icated employee as she
strives to accomplish ev-
ery task set before her
and makes sure it is done
well,” Sigman said.
“She is extremely knowl-
edgeable and a great re-
source for the clinic and
our patients.”
Sigman explained that
Jones spends countless
hours working and call-
ing insurance companies
to assist her patients with
their insurance issues and
doesn’t surrender until
they are resolved.
She truly cares about
her patients and would
do this for any and all of
them.
“Rhonda has a great

RETIRED SMSGT JAMES ALLEN MCCOY JOE ALAN RAMEY
FORMERLY OF HARTVILLE, MISSOURI HARTVILLE, MISSOURI

Retired SMSGT James Allen McCoy was born Nov.
3, 1934 to Carl E. McCoy and Martha (Borg) McCoy
in Belleville, Ill. He passed away May 2, 2021 at the
age of 86 after living a full and productive life in the
military and farming. In 1950 at the age of 16, James
lied about his age and enlisted in the Army and then
Air Force. In 1952, he served a tour in the Korean War.
On Dec. 31, 1955, James A. McCoy and Elva Lee Poston
married in Belleville, Ill. Life in the military took Elva
and James all over the United States and overseas.
James served one year in Thailand during the Vietnam
War. In the military he served as a Fireman and later
as a Fire Chief. He retired from the military in 1972
at the age of 37 after serving 21 years. James received
five honorable discharges, two Korean War Medals, a
RETIRED SMSGT JAMES commendation Medal, an Army and Air Force Good
Conduct Medal, an Expeditionary Medal, and a National
ALLEN MCCOY
Defense Medal. After retirement, James began raising
registered Polled Herefords on 331 acres in Hartville. He was the last purebred
Hereford breeder in Wright County, Missouri. Forty-four years of James’ life was
spent farming not only in Hartville, but also Green Ridge and Mountain View.
After the death of his wife in 2016, James moved to the Warrensburg Veterans
Home. He resided there until his passing.
Some of the roles James served in throughout his lifetime were as a father, hus-
band, Veteran, fireman, Fire Chief, Senior Master Sergeant, farmer, cattle breeder,
and leader in his community. James is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years,
Elva Lee (Poston) McCoy, and oldest son, Buddy McCoy, of Anchorage, Alas-
ka. James leaves behind three daughters, Nancy Windsor (Marshall) ,of Tyler,
Texas; Kathleen Koechner (Kyle -deceased), of Tipton; Leanne Knapp (Buster),
of Grovespring; and one son, Carl A. McCoy (Marti), of Grain Valley; as well as
daughter-in-law Linda McCoy of Anchorage, Alaska and numerous grandchildren
and great-grandchildren. A private burial will be held at a future date. Donations
in honor of James Allen McCoy may be sent to the Warrensburg Veteran’s Home,
1300 Veteran’s Rd., Warrensburg, Mo. 64093.

FORMERLY OF MOUNTAIN GROVE, MISSOURI
Betty Jo Mains, 88, of Mountain Grove, went to be

2021, while living at Willard Care Center in Willard.
She was born to Joseph and Mabel Smith at home in
Bradleyville. Betty worked at the Holiday Inn in Jack-
son, Mich., from 1966-1978 and became the Kitchen
Manager and Head Chef.
Joe Alan Ramey, son of Jack Richardson and Joy
Hodge, was born Sep. 3, 1956 in Ada, Okla. He
departed this life April 28, 2021 in his home at
Hartville, at the age of 64 years, 7 months and t25
days. Joe lived in Oklahoma and California before
moving to Hartville, with his grandmother in 1968;
Missouri has been home to him since. He enlisted in
the United States Navy; he served and sacrificed for
his country before receiving an honorable discharge.
On Nov. 30, 1979 at Lavern’s Marriage Parlor in
Miami, Okla., Joe married Rebecca “Becky” Mills
and she survives of the home. Also surviving are
his children; Juanita Baney, of Mountain Grove;
Melissa Chandler and her husband, Jeff, Jack Ra-
mey and his wife, Jessica, and Cindy Ramey, all of
Hartville; seven grandchildren, Caitlynn, Haleigh,

Isaac, Ethan, Johnathan, Izzy and Dexter; his siblings,

brother, uncle and dear friend. We celebrate his wonderful life and will always

Lila Lorine Huffman, daughter of Maurice and Erma (Imboden) Thrailkill, was
born Feb. 26, 1943 in Winterset, Iowa. She departed this life Monday, April 19,
2021 at her home in Hartville at the age of 78 years.
Lila was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Michael Huffman
on July 8, 1962. To this union they had two children and many memories.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Mike; children, Lesley (Tim) Dilg, of
St. Louis; and Aaron (Mindy) Huffman, of Hartville; four grandchildren, Lexi,
of St. Louis and Layla, Taylor and Dakota, of Hartville; a brother, Raymond
(Carolyn) Thrailkill, of Rogers, Ark.; her donkeys, Popeye and Zane; dog, Bella;
and her many cattle and stray kittens.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister Nila, and brother George.

Clinic in Mountain View

friends of longtime com-
munity servant Robert An-
drews, PA. Mr. Andrews,
affectionately known as
“Bob” by all who were
blessed enough to know
him or be served by him,
died at Cox Medical Center
in Springfield on April 2,
2021, at the age of 70.
The legacy left behind
by Bob has affected many
people, both near and far.
The staff members, board
of directors, and volunteers
of Good Samaritan Care
Clinic (GSCC) are especial-
ly saddened by the loss of
this friend, coworker, and
humanitarian. Bob served
as a volunteer at GSCC
since 2007 and was recently
voted by GSCC’s board of
directors to take on the ad-
ditional role of co-medical
director of the nonprofit
facility which has provided
free medical and dental ser-
vices to uninsured individ-
uals in rural South Central
Missouri since 2004. Bob
was a valued medical vol-
unteer at GSCC and at the
“drop of a hat” would glad-
ly serve as a fill-in medical
provider for someone who
was not able to fulfill their
volunteer obligation at the
clinic.
Bob took numerous mis-
sion trips to Haiti where he
was also a big hit among the
Haitian children. Friend
and GSCC co-volunteers,
Dr. Jon Roberts and Tamme
Conner, CRT-RCP, fondly
recall many Haitian tod-
dlers and children clinging
to Bob and hugging his
neck during those mission
trips where Bob and other
volunteer medical provid-
ers would treat hundreds
of sick and underserved

trip to Haiti, Bob and other
members of the Mountain
View medical missions’
team would work along-
side missionaries Rod and
Deb Wray to feed 1,000
or more starving children
during the Renault Sunday
School program near Les
Cayes, Haiti.
Bob came from a military
family and followed in
his father ’s footsteps by
serving his country in the
Vietnam War. His life-
long love for the medical
field blossomed when he
served as a medic in the
war and following his dis-
charge from the military,
he completed a physician
assistant program in Texas.
Around 1999 Bob moved
to Cabool, Missouri, and
began his career as a PA
in Mountain Grove, Hart-
ville, and Willow Springs.
Many patients in southern
Missouri came to know and
love Bob for his personable
spirit and caring attitude.
While in Vietnam Bob was
exposed to Agent Orange
and eventually would con-
tract Non-Hodgkins Lym-
phoma. In addition to
cancer, Bob lived with oth-
er medical issues and the
consequences of a hunting
accident in the early 2000’s,
yet he rarely allowed his
health problems to keep
him from going to the office
on a daily basis or volun-
teering at Good Samaritan
Care Clinic.
This “never-quit” atti-
tude was accompanied
by an inherent desire to
make people smile with
his good-natured humor,
words of encouragement,
and hugs. Bob was also
very generous. Longtime
friend Connie Strunk, MA,
served as Bob’s medical
assistant for many years,
obert n rews
both at Valley Medical Cen-
ter in Willow Springs, MO,
and Mountain Grove Med-
ical and Laser Center in
Mountain Grove, MO. She
remembers Bob reaching
into his pocket on numer-
ous occasions to pay for
the prescriptions or office
visit fees of patients he
knew were having a diffi-
cult time paying for their
needed medical care. Bob
was also known to keep his
pockets full of candy which
he generously shared with
children and adults he hap-
pened to come into contact
with.
He especially loved filling
plastic Easter eggs with
small treats for the chil-
dren of his church, Trinity
United Methodist Church
in Mountain Grove, or the
children he would treat in
his medical practice.
Bob Andrews (1951 – 1921)
was a good friend to many
and a great colleague. He
is survived by two broth-
ers, a son, granddaughter,
extended family members,
and a supportive church
family, as well as many de-
voted and lifelong friends.
The character of the life he
lived might be summed
up in a few words: he was
earnest, loyal, and had a
big heart. Adlai Steven-
son, the US Ambassador to
the United Nations (1961
– 1965), once commented
about a man and his con-
tribution:
“It is not the years in a
life that counts; it is the life
in the years.” The sorrow
of those who knew him is
lessened only slightly with
the comforting thought that
they had the privilege of
knowing him. Condolenc-

The 24th Annual Kathy
Smith Memorial St. Jude
Benefit Trail Ride and
Auction was held Sun-
day, April 25 at the farm
of Ernie and Kim Ehlers,
located north of Moun-
tain Grove.
There were 129 riders
who raised $20,000 for St.
Jude Children’s Hospital
in Memphis, Tenn.
That dollar amount
makes this the most suc-
cessful event to date.
The horseback ride was
seven miles of scenic
trails extending over the
farms of Ehlers, Elton
and Vallie Hoerning, and
Dixie Gaddis.
Once back at camp, par-
ticipants were treated to
a barbecue/potluck meal
served by Holy Cross Lu-
theran Church members,
lots of door prizes, and a

donated items from area

Mountain Grove track shines at SCA meet

The Mountain Grove
boys and girls track and
field program earned
several South Central
Association (SCA) titles
and team points in the
conference meet.
Macey Penner led the
squad as she won the 800
meters (2:34.81) and the
1,600 meters (5:49.56).
Penner also teamed
with Katie Jarrett, Jozey
Sharp-MacPherson and
Kailyn Wake to win the
4x400 (4:35.54).
Sharp-MacPherson won
the 100 meters (13.21) and
second in the 200 meters
(28.42).
Jarrett was fourth in the
800 (2:57.12).
Freshman Kailyn Wake
had personal bests in her
three jumping events.
She won the triple jump
(9.96m), second in the
long jump (4.8m) and
third in the high jump
(1.50m).
Just missing team points
was thrower Alina Allui-
si, who was ninth in the
discus (14.2m) and ninth
in the shot put (6.58m).
As for the boys pro-
gram, Hollen Glenn
earned All-Conference
honors by taking second
in the 400 meters (54.60).
Glenn also teamed with

third in the 800 meters

Lions get past Sparta, Panthers set for game

The Mansfield Lions
baseball team picked up
a big victory over Sparta
in a recent contest.
The Lions led 7-0
through four innings
when the Trojans rallied
with five runs in the top
of the fifth.
Mansfield then scored
three runs in their final
two at-bats to pull away
for a 10-5 win.
Trevor Williams had a
big game as he had two
RBIs and two runs scored.
Carter Brooke added two
RBIs; Kile Gray had two
RBIs and scored one run;
Chade Noble had one
RBI; Kellar Davis scored
twice; while Brayden Bar-
nett, Ryan Long, Jack

The Mountain Grove
Panthers baseball team
finished up a busy last
week for their regular
season schedule. In fin-
ishing with a 15-10-1
record, the Panthers
earned a No. 4 seed in
the upcoming Class 4,
District 10 Tournament
to be played at Spring-
field Catholic High
School. They will take
on a 4-19 Buffalo team
at 11 a.m. on Saturday,
May 15. A win gives
them a match-up with
the top seed, Springfield
Catholic, at 4 p.m. on
Monday, May 17. The
district championship
game will be held at 6
p.m. on Tuesday, May 18.
Last week, the Pan-
thers did knock off state-
ranked Marion C. Ear-
ly in a doubleheader
played in Springfield.
The game was tied

before Gatlin Keeling
had the game-winning
