• Indian Grandmaster, P Harikrishna has finished second in the rapid section of the 53rd Biel International

Chess Festival in Switzerland.

• The World No. 26 scored 10 points, two less than Radoslaw Wojtaszek of Poland, who finished on top.

• Earlier, the Indian GM had finished on top in the ACCENTUS Chess960 tournament, with 5.5 points.

• Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes-Great Britain) has won the Formula One British Grand Prix 2020 held on

August 02, 2020. He came first, despite a puncture during the last lap.

• Max Verstappen ended up second in this F1 race while Charles Leclerc came third.

• This is the third win for Hamilton in this season of F1 races.

India withdraws from women’s world team Squash championship

• India has withdrawn from the women’s world team Squash championship scheduled in Kuala Lumpur,

Malaysia from 15th to 20th December, due to lack of preparation, time and match-readiness of its players.

• Squash Rackets Federation of India (SRFI) has decided to withdraw from the championship.

IPL Cricket - 2020 to begin from Sept 19 in UAE

• PL 2020 will be played from September 19 to November 10 in the UAE this year.

• The decision to this effect was taken at a virtual meeting of IPL Governing Council last night.

• The matches will be played in Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi subject to necessary clearances from the

Government of India.

• The final will be played on 10th November this year.

• The 53-day tournament will witness 10-afternoon matches starting at 3:30 PM Indian time while the

evening matches will start at 7:30 PM

Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju chaired 1st General Council meeting of Khelo India Scheme

• Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju chaired the first General Council meeting of the Khelo India Scheme on 4th

July.

• The annual competitions like the Khelo India Youth Games and University Games, are being organized at

the national level under the Khelo India Scheme.

• This has helped to identify sporting talent from all states.

Highlights:

• The meeting urged the states to organize State-level Khelo India Games annually with an effort to identify

a larger number of grassroots-level talents.

• The States that already conduct annual sporting competitions are directed to align with the Khelo India

Scheme.

• The Government of India reaffirmed to support them in conducting these events.

• It was decided to identify talent as young as 5 to 10 years old and groom them to be future champions as

it takes at least eight years to groom an athlete for the Olympics.

• Also, the states have been directed to organize competitions at the district, block, and panchayat-level to

identify young talent.

• The Sports Ministry announced its plan for the 5 zonal talent scouting committees for east, west, north,

south, and northeast India.

• “Fit India Freedom Run” would be organised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports from 15th August

15 to 151st birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on October 2.

• Indian Cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni has announced retirement from all forms of international cricket.

• Dhoni shared this information on Instagram on August 15, 2020 as- “Thanks. Thanks for ur love and

support throughout. from 1929 hrs consider me as Retired”

• Dhoni is the only Captain to win all three major International Cricket Council (ICC) trophies — the World

Cup, the World Twenty20 and the Champions Trophy.

• Since he has announced retirement from International cricket, he will continue to play for Indian Premier

League (IPL).

Cricketer Suresh Raina announces retirement

• After M.S. Dhoni, Indian cricketer Suresh Raina has also announced retirement from Cricket on August

15, 2020.

• He shared a photo on Instagram with other fellow cricketers including MS Dhoni with a caption, “It was

nothing but lovely playing with you, @mahi7781 . With my heart full of pride, I choose to join you in this

Kevin de Bruyne named Premier League Player of the Season 2019-20

• In Football, the Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has been named as the Premier League

Player of the Season 2019-20.

• He is the only third Belgian footballer to win the award for the league’s top performer, after Eden Hazard

decided to retire from international cricket last December.

career.

• She was part of the England squad that won the Women’s World Cup in 2009 and in 2017.

• The Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, Shri Kiren Rijiju launched the new logo of Sports

• The new logo of SAI features a flying figure which indicates the freedom an athlete to leapfrog his/her

career in SAI.

• The figure features Indian Tricolour and blue colour of chakra.

• In Shooting, India’s Visnu Shivaraj Pandian has won the 10m air rifle event at the fifth edition of the

International Online Shooting Championship held on 3rd October 2020.

• The 16-year-old Visnu shot 251.4 to win the title by a clear margin of two points.

• The world No. 27 Etienne Germond of France came second followed by Martin Strempfl of Austria at third

place.

India Climb to Third in ICC Women’s T20 Team Rankings, topped by Australia

• The Indian women’s cricket team has overtaken New Zealand to rise to the third spot in the T20

International standings and retained the second position in the ODI chart of the latest ICC rankings.

• Australia and England retain the top two positions in T20s, their points tally remaining 291 and 280,

respectively.

• The biggest improvement in rankings has been registered by Brazil, who are up 11 places to 27, after a

gain of 15 rating points, while the biggest ranking fall has been for Malaysia, who are down from 31st to

38th.

elections in accordance with the National Sports Development Code of India. Government recognition of

AAI will be valid for one year.

• Former India pacer Sudeep Tyagi on Tuesday announced retirement from all formats of the game.

• The 33-year-old played four ODIs -- from which he took three wickets and one T20 International. He last

played for India in 2010.

• He featured in 14 Indian Premier League matches for Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

• Tyagi played 41 first-class matches from which he picked 109 wickets and also featured in 23 List A

matches (31 wickets). He played two seasons in the IPL in 2009 and 2010

• India has been appointed host of the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup 2022, the Bureau of the FIFA Council

Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports had sanctioned 5 lakh rupees to the family of deceased Manipuri Footballer

Manitombi Singh in an effort to ease the financial crisis of the family.

• Manitombi, who died in August, 2020 at the age of 39, was the only earning member of his family and is

survived by his wife and a son.

• Manitombi has contributed significantly to Indian football and also contributed as a coach in Manipur.

• The grant of 5 lakh rupees was sanctioned under the Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay National Welfare Fund

for sportspersons.

• The sports ministry has been consistently helping athletes in need of financial support through this fund.

• Senegal’s professional footballer, Papa Bouba Diop, who helped the country win FIFA World Cup match

in 2002, has passed away following a long illness. He was of the age of 42.

• His goal helped Senegal secure historic 1–0 win over the then-world champions France in the opening

match of the 2002 FIFA World Cup, and Senegal’s first ever match at the FIFA World Cup.

• Diop has won 63 caps for Senegal.

Dawid Malan of England creates history with highest-ever rating points in T20I: ICC T20 Batsmen Ranking

• Left-handed batsman Dawid Malan of England has attained the highest-ever rating points for batsmen in

the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s T20I Player Rankings, released on 2nd December 2020.

• The 33-year-old Malan has reached 915 points, and thus became the first player to cross the 900-point

mark in the format.

• Before him, Australia’s Aaron Finch reached exactly 900 points in July 2018.

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has formally announced its candidature to host the AFC Asian Cup 2027

emerging football market, home to 1.3 billion people.

• In addition to the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2017 India is also due to host the FIFA U-17 Women’s World

Cup and the AFC Women’s Asian Cup in 2022.

Sri Lanka to host Asia Cup in 2021, Pakistan in 2022:

• PTI, PCB Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Wasim Khan said, "The next Asia Cup will be hosted in Sri Lanka

in June and we have got hosting rights now for the 2022 Asia Cup."

• The tournament which was supposed to take place in Pakistan this year, will now be taking place in Sri

Lanka in 2021.

on Fit India website

• The IOC executive board also confirmed skateboarding, sport climbing and surfing for Paris.

• Those three sports will make their Olympic debuts at the Tokyo Games which were postponed

BCCI Clears 10-Team IPL From 2022

third and final norm at a tournament in Italy.

State.

• The All India Chess Federation (AICF) acknowledged the development. Leon is the second Indian to

become GM this year after G. Akash.

• He achieved his first GM norm at the Rigo Chess GM Round Robin in October while the second came at

organised by the Ice Hockey Association of India, after defeating Ladakh with five goals to one.

• The match was held at Gulmarg Ice Rink.

• On behalf of ITBP, Urgyan and Tashi scored two goals each while Punchuk scored one goal.

• The championship, which concluded on Friday, was held at an altitude of 8,694-feet and temperatures

below freezing point.

2022 AFC Women's Asia Cup in India

• 2022 AFC Women's Asian Cup, set to be held in India, has been confirmed by the continental governing

body.

• The marquee women's football event will start on January 20, 2022, and will finish on February 6, 2022.

• The tournament has also been expanded to feature 12 of the best teams on the continent. It must be

noted that the previous edition of the Women's Asian Cup, which was held in Jordan, had featured only

eight teams.

including two third-placed teams.

• A total of 25 matches will be played across 18 days during the tournament.

• The 2022 Women's Asian Cup will also serve as a qualification tournament for the 2023 Women's World
