Proposed WHS Management System Report

Introduction
This report is created to plan and develop a Work Health and Safety Management
System to assist Australian Hardware on the lack of its approach to Work Health and Safety
compliance.
Australian Hardware recognizes that the health and safety of everyone involved
within the company, the employee and visitors is of outmost importance. The company will
make the resources in line with the importance attached to workplace health and safety
available to comply with all relevant Acts and Regulations. This is done to ensure that the
workplace is safe and without risk to health.
Australian Hardware supply hardware, homewares, garden supplies and building
materials with the best quality from Australia and around the globe. The company is
committed to provide customers with value through low prices, product quality, expert
services, community engagement and environmental responsibility. The company vision
itself to lead the hardware and home improvement market in Australia within five years.
Work Health and Safety Management System
Work Health and Safety Management System is used to manage the work health and
safety in the company. The purpose is to promote a safe and healthy environment through a
structure. This structure allows the company to identify and control risk, and minimize
accident. The system is designed to ensure that the legislation is followed.
Policies and Procedures to Include
The policies and procedures needed to include in the Work Health and Safety
Management System are as follows:
- Workplace hazard management
- Workplace inspections
- Incidents and issues investigation with corrective actions
- Administrative activities, such as record keeping and purchasing
- Reactive and responses activities which include first aid and medical emergencies,
reporting illness, injury, incidents and dangerous occurrences
- Legal responsibilities
Adaptation and Amendments Required
Adaptation and amendments might be necessary. When new hazard is identified,
new technology is used there will be things that will be adapted in the company. Adapting to
a new activity and changing the way of things are done might be necessary, such as wearing
personal protection equipment for specific job, or having a special qualification to handle
chemical products.

Australian Hardware WHS Policy and Procedures
Purpose The purpose of this policy is to ensure that work is carried out
safely in accordance with Australian Hardware’s ethical and legal
obligations to provide and maintain a safe workplace. Australian
Hardware recognises its responsibility to provide a healthy and
safe working environment for employees, contractors, clients and
visitors. Australian Hardware is committed to the continued
wellbeing of its employees and to ensuring that all employees are
safe from injury and health risks while undertaking work-related
duties, including home-based work.

Scope The scope of this policy covers all employees and contractors of
Australian Hardware stores all over Australia.

Responsibilit Responsibility for the implementation of this policy rests with

responsibility for providing a safe place of work.
Management at Australian Hardware Store are responsible for:
● consultation with employees regarding health and safety
and changes to legislation and/or working practices which
may affect the workplace
● providing and maintaining a safe and healthy environment
for work
● providing support, training, and supervision to employees
to ensure a safe and healthy workplace
● the provision of adequate resources for employees to meet
health and safety management system targets.

Individual employees are responsible for:


● following all workplace health and safety policies and
procedures
● ensuring that they report all potential and actual risks to
managers/supervisors
● taking care to protect their own health and safety and that
of their colleagues at work
● ensuring that their own, or others’, health and safety is not
adversely affected by the consumption of drugs or alcohol
● encouraging others to follow healthy and safe working
practices in the workplace.

How the Proposed WHSMS Meets Legislative Requirements
The proposed WHSMS is based on the relevant legislation, which are:
- Work Health and Safety Act 2011
- Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011
The duty holders of the WHSMS are described as follow:
- PCBU – Person Conducting a Business or Undertaking has the primary duty to
ensure the health and safety of workers. The person is also responsible to ensure
work performed does not carry risk to health and safety of other employees.
- Officers - They are required to ensure the PCBU meets the duty
- Workers – They are responsible to ensure acts do not affect the health and safety of
employees, comply with sensible instructions from the PCBU to assist complying with
the WHS Act and cooperate with the applicable policies and procedures related to
health and safety at the office.
How The Proposed WHSMS Meets Organizational Requirements
The proposed Work Health and Safety Management System is aligned with the
organizational need and is as possible to confirm the human, physical and financial
resources is within the budget provided.
