Rock wedge stability

A rock slope with a horizontal earth platform is considered. The rockmass with a volumetric mass of γ
is submitted at the platform level to a distributed load q. A family of discontinuities of dip β is present
in the rockmass and has a cohesion c and friction angle φ.

Question 1:
Check the stability of a plane surface defined by a discontinuity in the slope beginning at a distance d
from the platform, considering a superficial load on the platform.

Question 2:
Express the traction effort in an anchor inclined at an angle δ with respect to the slope to obtain a
safety factor of SF = 2.

Question 3:
Verify the slumping stability of the rock wedge represented below for l = 20 m.

h
β

Application: h = 8m; l = 20 m ; α = 45°; β = 20°; δ = 80°; c = 50kPa; φ = 12°; q = 200kPa; γ=27kN/m³

Solutions : Q1 : Sf = 1.378 ; Q2 : A = 1266.7 kN/m ; Q3 : Sf = 2.39
