Action Plan For Flooding
Action Plan For Flooding
A site-specific flood risk assessment has been carried out on behalf of the community which shows
the flooding risk to be medium. In 2021 work started to redevelop the site and in doing so, the floor
levels in the structures and the main access routes will be raised thus further reducing the chance of
flooding.
The community has been redeveloped by means of drainage and irrigation as a mitigation against
flood. No further preventative measures have been possible because of the nature of the
watercourse. Protection Flood barriers have been installed around the community to prevent risk
from flooding to allow some protection, but these measures are only intended to allow extra time
for evacuation in the flood scenario. The community has made the decision that as soon as flooding
touches the constructed walls, the entire community will be evacuated as a precaution.
Flood crash out bags are held in the community hall and a full flood kit is maintained at the building
as well. A flood evacuation drill is carried out in each household twice annually.
Flood warnings will come directly from Environment protection agency who will make contact with
the community leader on a designated emergency number. Should the community leader not be
available, the deputy community leader will take up the responsibility to begin evacuation if
necessary, or just keep watch on flood updates to decide on behalf of the community
When flooding poses a significant threat to life, different actions are required. Community members
are asked to Be ready for immediate evacuation from their homes. they should call 911, shout for
help if they are in immediate danger or get to the closest muster point location where adequate aid
would be provided.
When they are no longer signs of flooding and flood waters has receded, the community should be
fully sterilized to prevent any form of contamination. If damages occur it advised that your insurance
company is made aware as soon as possible if there were insurable items in their homes. After every
flooding that occurs, this action plan must be revised and updated.
