RECENT DISASTER RESEARCH

The most recent disaster in my community, Purok 6 of Barangay 20-B, is the

overflowing of our drainage system causing flood during the rainy season. This has
been the frequent disaster in our community because of the area located at the downhill
of the city, and belongs to the center of the city, our neighborhood has been
experiencing flooding or overflowing of the drainage system ever since I remember.

These are the following details I gathered researching about the recent disaster
in my community;

a. This disaster is classified as NATURAL HAZARD due to the common cause

such as rain. It is also a primary hazard because the people in our community
have direct contact with the water to the point that it will enter the households
and may cause health problems.
b. Everyone that lives in our community is affected by this disaster whether they
are locals or renters, approximately there are 1, 500 lives that is at stake
when this disaster occurs.
c. There are no specific damage or casualties that are caused by this disaster.
This is because the people in our community are prepared for this event since
this has been happening to our community ever since.
d. According to RA 10121 Section 2 Clause B our local authorities should
overcome the human sufferings of the residence in our community and here
is the step-by-step plan that they should implement;
1. Address the main cause of the flooding since this is all happening due
to the clog in our draining system caused by the on-going construction
of buildings beside our community that belongs to the private sector.
2. Our LGU’s should connect and make a plan with this private sector to
come up with a solution to this problem.
3. Execute the plan and make a whole new drainage system that can
help our community not to experience flooding anymore and at the
same time it would not cause any interruption with the on-going
constructions of the buildings.
4. And lastly, maintain this plan and be prepared for the next natural
disasters that will occur and prepare the residence.
