Answer:

Frankenstein or the Modern Prometheus

Title: The Frankenstein or The Modern Prometheus is a novel written by Mary

Wollstonecraft Shelley. This novel, is a combination of science fiction and Gothic horror story.

Why I choose this novel: As this is a fiction story. But it also reflects the real, bitter amd selfish
image of world that attracts me to read this novel. Writer completely shows the bitterness of
human. We have gone so far in the innovation and development of science that we have not been
able to understand the emotions in the creatures.

Characters: There are Victor Frankenstein, The Monster, Robert Walton, Elizabeth
Lavenza, Henry Clerval, four main characters in this novel. The protagonist, Victor
Frankenstein, is young Swiss, intelligent and successful boy. He is the major and static character,
at the heart of the novel. He is a protagonist. As Victor Frankenstein is a brilliant and brave
youngest scientist but he destroyed his life. After finding out the modern secrets of science, he
created a monster by the parts of corpses. But because of
Victor, Monster killed Victor’s brother and his wife. Instead of feeling shame, regret and guilt, he
refused to accept his mistake. During the novel, Victor transforms from an innocent young man
into a deceitful and criminal man, fascinated by the possibilities of science.

Plot: Frankenstein tells the story of the brilliant scientist Victor Frankenstein who succeeds in
giving life to the entity of his creation. However, this is not the perfect specimen he imagines it
to be, but an ugly creature that Victor and mankind in general have rejected. The monster seeks
revenge through murder and terror.

Point of view:
Frankenstein is described in the first person by different characters in different places in the
novel. The novel begins with a statement by Captain Walton writing a series of letters to his
sister Margaret. The point then goes to Victor Frankenstein, who tells Walton about his life.
After hearing Victor’s story, Walton comes to appreciate his experiences. When Victor arrives at
the point in his story where he describes his encounter with the monster, the perspective is
switched on again, this time with the monster, who narrates his experiences in the first person.
Then the points comes back.

Victor, who continues his story. The novel ends with a return to Walton’s point of view and
first-person statement.

Setting: The story begins in the Central European country of Switzerland. However, the novel is
widespread in Europe and around the world. Because most of the characters in the novel lived or
visited different countries. The frame story of this novel told by Walton is set in the Arctic
Ocean where Walton is trying to find a new way around the world. Covering the world in this
way, Frankenstein presents himself as a universal story.

Style: Basically, the author wrote Frankenstein in the horror genre. The novel has Gothic
concepts and is very much aware of romance. There are numerous poetic quotations on the
power and beauty of natural landscapes, and language often refers to questions of purpose,
meaning, and truth.

Theme: The author uses images of landscapes to keep human trials in perspective. In the novel,
nature stands in opposition to man’s struggle. Despite scientific achievements, nature is ignorant
and the most powerful. Nature is the ultimate force that kills Frankenstein and the creatures, and
it is a very dangerous force for Captain Walton to win his campaign.

Tone: Frankenstein’s tone is largely dull and depressing. The tone begins with hope from the
point of view of Captain Walton, who is excited and optimistic about his voyage to the Arctic.
However, with Victor’s appearance, the mood becomes increasingly dark. The ending of the
novel contributes most strongly to the tone of nonsense. Victor is desperate and just waiting to
die. After the failure of Walton’s campaign, he too is forced to admit that he will not fulfill his
ambitions and will have to return to England full of regret and despair.

Concluding remarks:

Frankenstein is an old classic novel about a scientist who creates a monster and horrible events
that he inadvertently causes. Victor Frankenstein is a hardworking young man. He believes that
his discovery will lead to further scientific progress, but when he succeeds in reviving his
creation, he is filled with hatred.

I enjoyed the novel, which ultimately begs the question of what it means to be human.

I liked the fact that although Frankenstein sees his monster as a cruel devil. This novel allows
readers to see events from the point of view of monsters. I liked the chapters in the story that the
monster told because I sympathized with his loneliness while I thought Victor Frankenstein was
arrogant and self-righteous. After all, it is Frankenstein who must respond to the demonic action
of his creation.

This novel is generally considered a horror story but I have to disagree with it. More than
anything, it’s a tragic novel, when you think about what would have happened if the monster
hadn’t been so lonely, and if every human being hadn’t rejected it the way they did. I’ve been
thinking about this ever since I turned the last page

I am disappointed with Victor Frankenstein’s arrogant personality, I would highly recommend it

and I can see why so many generations have enjoyed it.
The Outsiders

Tittle: A coming-of-age novel, The Outsiders, written by S. E. Hinton. It was first published in
1967. The writer was 15 when she started writing the novel.

Why I choose this novel: The Outsiders is a phenomenal and lasting work of fiction. I chose this
novel because it’s a story with a lot of heart. The well established characters are so relatable. I
feel a real connection to some of the characters.

Characters: It’s a story of teenagers. All the characters are school going. Ponyboy Curtis,
Sodapop Curtis, Darry Curtis are three brothers. Johnny Cade, Cherry Valance are the two other
important characters. The story revolves around the two groups: greasers and Socs.

Ponyboy Curtis is a protagonist of novel. He is only fourteen year’s old young boy. He lost his
parents in a road accident. He is such an observing boy who faces social integration but wants to
clear all of these type differences. He thinks why they always fighting with their friends. In seven
days of his life, he learned a lot. He loves to reading books. His observing and sensitive nature
makes him apart from the other Greasers and helps him to see things more deeply. He often
questions himself why everyone wastes so much time fighting rather than focusing on what they
have in common.

Plot: The protagonist Ponyboy Curtis belongs to a lower class of Oklahoma youth who call
themselves greasers because of their long hair. Story starts with a walk home from the Pony
Boy movies and is jumped on by a group of rich West Socs kids (or socials) who drink alcohol,
drive fancy cars and just graze for fun. Group greasers fears and hates Socs because Socs once
beat up Pony Boy’s friend and colleague greaser Johnny Cade. The pony boy finds it difficult to
accept the death of his friend Johnny and what happened to him, and his grades begin to fall.
When he is assigned to write an essay for English so that he can pass the class. He thinks and
decides to write his experiences and his story, because the bravery of his brother, his friend and
Johnny can remind children that there is always something good in the world.

Point of view: The novel The Outsiders is about two weeks into the life of a 14-year-old boy.
The novel tells the story of Pony Boy Curtis and his struggle with right and wrong in a society in
which he thinks he is an outsider.

Theme: The novel The Outsiders is a story of love, brotherhood, friendship and hate. There are
many themes in a sustainable novel, but self-identity versus group identity is an important one.
The title of this novel is proof of this. Because the greasers feel they are out of society. The
protagonist and narrator of this novel feels like an outsider in many ways. He struggles with his
identity inside and outside his (greasers) group.

Setting: The whole story takes place in Tulsa, Oklahoma in the 1960s. The narrator (ponyboy)
explains that the greasers rule the poorer East Side of town. And the Socs represents the
wealthier West Side of town.

Style: Hinton, the novel’s wrier, written this novel in a colloquial style. She used slang, dialogue
and repetition to create an informal style. To present how teenagers in 1960s communicate with
one another. Slang is a secret code in this novel.

Tone: Generally, the tone of this novel is respectful towards characters but also bitter and
depressing at the situations of characters.

Concluding remarks:
I am sad I had read this novel so late.

Darry Curtis, the oldest of those three brothers, broke my heart as well.

I mean, his parents were dead and he had to take care of his two younger brothers. I can’t
imagine how bravely he needed so much strength to take care of his brothers at such a young
age, but he still did it and even succeeded. He got a job and he took care of them and that alone
makes him a hero in my eyes.

The other interesting thing about this novel is social integration. They are all human beings,
whether they are “Socs” or “Greasers”, they just want to live their lives, they want to be happy
and accept for who they are and in the end they are actually so different. Not as good as they
look. It’s an epiphany experience for us readers as we read this book, but it’s a lesson that not
all characters learn. The ending made me sad.
Conclusion: I recommend this novel to everyone. You should definitely read this extraordinary
novel. This is a wonderful novel that teaches an important lesson.
