Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in MAPEH 8 (ARTS)

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson the students should be able to:

a. Describe the different fabric/fabric design of Thailand, Cambodia and Laos.


b. Understand the nature of Thailand, Cambodia and Laos in arts and how they affect the life and culture
of the people.
c. Appreciate the different kinds of fabric design in Thailand, Cambodia, and Laos

Subject: MAPEH 8 (ARTS)
Topic: FABRIC/FABRIC DESIGN – THAILAND, CAMBODIA and LAOS
Reference: Music and Arts of Asia Learner’s Module pages 170 – 172
Materials: Book, Visual Aids, Manila Paper, Pictures

III. METHODOLOGY
A. Daily Routine
1. Prayer and checking of attendance
2. Review of the previous lesson
3. Motivation
The teacher will give the activity which calls “MATCH IT”. The students are grouped
into four, they are asked to match the pictures to their respective countries.

B. Presentation
Discussion:
 Thai silk is produced from the cocoons of Thai silkworms.

Thai Silk
 Silk weaving in Cambodia dates to as early as the first century since textiles were used for
trading.

 Cambodian types of weaving:


 Ikat technique (Khmer term: chongkiet) – to create patterns, weaver tie and dye portions of weft
yarn before weaving begins, Patterns are

 Diverse and vary by region; common motifs include lattice, stars and spots.

Ikat Technique
 Uneven twill- it yields single or two-color fabrics, which are produced by weaving three threads
so that the color of one thread dominates on one side of the fabric, while the two others determine
the color on the reverse side.

 According to Lao tradition, stories of their history were not passed on orally nor was it written,
they were woven. Strand by strand, Lao stories were weaved in the intricate dense patterns and
motifs of textiles.Unfortunately, some are elaborately fantastic and the motifs so cryptic, that in
many cases only the weaver can accurately interpret the story. Most diverse stories are the ones
woven into sihn – the Lao women’s ankle-long skirt whose form is undeniable but whose patterns
are unique to each skirt.

 Though the skirt looks simple and elegant, it is traditional that every woman in traditionally that
every woman in Laos weaves all the sihns she would wear throughout her lifetime.

C. Activity
The students will play the game called Scrambled Words.
The teacher will give the scrambled words and match it with their respective countries.

D. Analysis
The teacher will give the words related to the topic and the students will describe or say
something about it.
Here are the following words.
1. Ikat technique
2. Thai silk
3. Sihn
4. Uneven twill

E. Abstraction
The teacher will asked the following question:
1. Thailand, Cambodia, and Laos among these three countries which would you like the
most or you amaze with specifically in their fabric design? Why?
F. Application
Make a short essay that talk about the importance of Fabric Design and how are they affect
life and culture of the people in Thailand, Cambodia and Laos.

IV- Evaluation
The teacher will give the activity called matching type.
Directions: Match the words to their respective meaning.
