Writing a Narrative
PLOT PRACTICE
The events of a story are called a plot. Practice making up plots to
stories. Use another piece of paper to continue your stories.
1. Imagine you find a magic mirror that lets you see into the
future. You see something bad happening to people that you care
about. What is happening in the mirror? What do you do?
Many stories have problems at the center of their plot, and the plot of the story is
how the main character solves the problem.
2. Think of a problem you have encountered recently. Write down three different
ways that a person might try to solve this problem.
3. Think of a difficult problem you have heard or read about. Write down how
people tried to solve the problem (ways that didn’t work) and how they
eventually solved the problem.
Sometimes a story is about an adventure. Write about an exciting adventure you
would like to have.
