ITE-811 – Role of Technology in Education (3+0): MS(ITL)-2k21 Fall 2021

Project Task Description

Project
The aim of this project is to apply the theoretical concepts and technical methods discussed in the course to come up with
an idea related to the immersion of technology in an educational setting and develop a prototype of your technology.
Your idea must incorporate at least two aspects, namely, learning and assessment.

The project deliverables will include:

• Project conceptual design (ideas, concepts, rationale)
• Literature review
• Multiple prototypes
o At least two initial prototypes
o Final prototype based on the evaluation of the initial prototypes from users
• Prototype evaluation
• Final report

Tasks:

Task 1: Group Formation and Project Proposal

Build 5 groups with 4 students in each of them. There are 22 registered students in the class. Therefore, there can be 2
groups which will have 5 members. Find an appropriate name for your group.

You have to generate PowerPoint slides on the project concept and submit them in LMS (there will be no live presentation,
you just have to submit the slides). The slides should focus on the following points:

1. Provide your group name and members

2. Explain the idea of your project?
3. What educational problem you are planning to address in this project through the immersion of technology?
4. How learning and assessment will happen through your technology?

Submit your presentations into the “Project Task 1 - Group Formation and Project Proposal” assignment as a group in LMS.
The deadline for this task is October 4th, 2021 at 23:59.

Task 2: Literature Review

You have to generate PowerPoint slides on the project concept and submit them in LMS (there will be no live presentation,
you just have to submit the slides). The slides should focus on the following points:

1. A short recap of the project idea and the educational problem addressed in the project
a. If there are any updates compared to the initial idea, clearly highlight them and explain why
2. Perform a systematic literature review
a. At least 5 papers related to the problem you are solving should be thoroughly analyzed
3. Provide the results of the literature review
a. What are the gaps in the current research
b. How is your idea going to fill in those gaps
4. A breakdown of which group member analyzed which research paper(s)

Submit your presentations into the “Project Task 2 – Literature Review” assignment as a group in LMS. The deadline for
this task is November 1st, 2021 at 23:59.

Task 3: Project Prototypes

You have to generate PowerPoint slides on the prototypes of the project and submit them in LMS (there will be no live
presentation, you just have to submit the slides). The slides should focus on the following points:

1. A short recap of the project idea and the educational problem addressed in the project
a. If there are any updates compared to the initial idea, clearly highlight them and explain why
2. Prototypes of your proposed project
a. Illustrations of what the project will look like using Photoshop
b. Multiple prototypes should be generated to get effective evaluation feedback from users
i. One prototype must be drawn using Photoshop. Other prototypes can be hand-drawn sketches
or mockups made with a drawing program e.g. Axure (free for students)
3. A clear breakdown of which member of the group did what in the project

Submit your presentations into the “Project Task 3 - Project Prototypes” assignment as a group in LMS. The deadline for
this task is November 22nd, 2021 at 23:59.

Task 4.1: Final Project Presentations

The final presentations (20 min presentation + 5 min discussion) will be in the lecture sessions on January 3rd and 5th, 2021.
The deadline for this task will be January 3rd, 2021 at 17:00. The presentation should follow the following structure:

• A short description of the project idea and the problem statement

• A summary of literature review
• Prototypes and evaluation results (main focus)
• Summary
o Summarize your project (conceptual and technical results)
o Provide a breakdown of who did what work in the project

Important Notes
• Test everything (internet connection, sound, video, etc.) before the presentation sessions
• You will ONLY have a maximum of 20 min for the final project presentations
• Be sure to practice in advance so that you don't run over your time slot. We will be strict with the time constraints
for each group!
Task 4.2: Final Project Report
The report must follow the formatting guidelines and use the template for Springer Journal submissions
(https://www.springer.com/journal/10758/submission-
guidelines#Instructions%20for%20Authors_Author%20tools%20to%20prepare%20your%20article). The report should
follow the following structure:

• Abstract
o A concise summary of your project
• Introduction
o Give the big picture
o Establish the scope of what you did
o Define the problem statement and how you are planning to solve it using technology
• Literature Review
o Provide the methodology used to perform the literature review
o Provide the results of the literature review
▪ What are the gaps in the current research
▪ How is your idea going to fill in those gaps
• Prototypes
o Provide and discuss the multiple generated prototypes of your proposed project
o Justify how these prototypes will solve the problem being addressed
• Evaluation
o Provide the methodology of how the evaluation of the prototypes was conducted
o Systematically evaluate the prototypes from at least 5 users
o Systematically presented the results of the evaluation
• Discussion and Future Work
o Strengths, weaknesses, limitations of your project (reflect on your approach)
o Lessons learned (what do you know now that you didn't when you started?)
o Future work (what would you do if you had more time?)
• Conclusion
o Summarize what you have done
• References

Submit your results into the “Task 4.2 - Final Project Report” assignment as a group in LMS. The deadline for this task is
January 3rd, 2021 at 17:00.

Task 4.3: Final Project Prototypes

The submission should contain the initial and final project prototypes

Submit your prototypes as a zip file into the “Task 4.3 - Final Project Prototypes” assignment as a group in LMS. The
deadline for this task is January 3rd, 2021 at 17:00.
Project Grading

The project will be graded based on the following scheme:

Dimension Weightage
Project idea 5%
Literature review 20%
Prototypes 20%
Project evaluation 10%
Final presentation and demo 20%
• Content structure and quality
• Delivery: presentation style, slide quality
Project report 25%
