RESTORE WHAT WAS THERE AND PRESERVE WHAT IS HERE

A REFLECTION BY: Mariam Ayyad

As the world ascends along the time, people’s way of life evolves
too in different aspects like technology, education, health and many
more. These changes is without a doubt making life convenient for
people. Tradition along with culture changes slowly, with changes from
one generation to the next being seen as significant. Thus, those
carrying out the traditions and culture will not be consciously aware of
the change, and even if a tradition undergoes major changes over many
generations, it will be seen as unchanged. And that is why preservation
and restoration of Contemporary Arts is essential.
Preserving contemporary arts is important because as I have
stated earlier, the world ascends to the future. But despite these
changes humans are still engulfed with reminiscing the past to pay
respect for it. This has to do with restoration. Restoring what was once
a contemporary art gives people from the present a glimpse of what life
was like back then since contemporary art is a complex examination of
present-day life. Common themes that might be examined include:
identity, the body, technology, globalization, migration, society, culture,
memory, the passage of time, and artistic critique of sociopolitical
institutions. A society’s culture will not be considered rich if it has
nothing to do with the past. Culture is seen prosperous when a fruitful
past is transparent in the present. And a past is fruitful when
preservation and restoration is constantly practiced.
It is never wrong to embrace the alterations and upgrades in the
world. What’s wrong is forgetting what you had in the past before the
enrichments in the present, because one day, what you have in the
present will be a part of culture, thus, becoming a part of the past.
Restore what was there and preserve what is here to keep track of
who, us humans, used to be.
