144 MHz to 146 MHz J-pole Antennaz

Here you shall find the info to build a 144 MHz to 146 MHz J-pole type vertical
antenna.

This antenna is cheap to build and is more efficient than a quarter wave ground
plane antenna and a half wave folded dipole antenna.

This antenna has an omni-directional radiation pattern.

This antenna mounted onto a five meter high pole with stainless steel hose-clamps
can be used to cover distances of 120 km and more even with a mountain range in
between using simplex mode and 2 watts of transmit power due to its low angle of
radiation producing a better ground wave.

The International Space Station was contacted while it was ten to thirty degrees
above the horizon using this antenna with 14 meters of RG 213 co-ax cable and 2
watts transmit power in simplex mode.

Of course the more transmit power the better.

VHF is not just line of sight with this antenna.

Use RG 213 co-axial cable with this antenna keeping the length of the co-ax cable
in multiples of full wave length, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20 meters etc.
