COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course introduces the students to the fundamental concepts and principles – Barter, payments, and money economy; money, inflation, interest rates, and outputs; intermediation and
the financial system, financial instrument, markets, and institutions; interest rates and term structure. Also, Financial services industry; origins of banks, why is the financial industry special;
banking and financial regulation; risks in financial intermediation. Topics include money creation and central banking: Instruments of monetary policy: Operations of the monetary board:
crosses, models, and curves: monetary theories, policies ideas and results.

This course covers the system of public finance.

The course develops in the students an in-depth understanding of monetary concepts relevant to the finance function.

After successful completion of this course, the students should be able to:

1. Justify the importance, as well as the limits of monetary policy as a tool of macroeconomic management.
2. Explain the role of the central bank as the institution responsible for implementing monetary policy.
3. Give an overview of the implementation of monetary policy in practice.
4. Review and assess the experience of a range of economies in conducting monetary policy.
