GEC 9 – THE LIFE AND WORKS OF RIZAL

REACTION PAPER

There are a lot of strings that connects Rizal to various myths and legends about

who he really is; there is one myth that suggests, he fathered Adolf Hitler, and on the

other hand he was the infamous serial killer of 19 th century, Jack the Ripper. However,

there are a lot of misconception and lack of evidence to prove otherwise that Rizal is the

father of Hitler or the serial killer, Jack the Ripper.

I think it is important to address these conspiracies and theories about the hoax,

myths and legends that roams about our national hero. It would stain the legacy of Rizal

if these misconceptions and conspiracies continue to roam.

I was stunned when I first read about this concept or theory; fascinated on how

they connect our national hero as the father of probably the most hated man on the

planet in World War II, Hitler. But, as I’ve dug deeper in the context, I realized what a

hoax it was; all of the evidence presented was lacking, and the timeline was off at the

time Hitler was born and Rizal left Germany.

 Another hoax about Rizal is where he was suspected of being the infamous

serial killer of 19th century in London, Jack the Ripper. Although there are similarities

and links of chains that connects it to him; such as: his initials, the skill of a doctor—

where the killer showcases medical abilities in mutilating his victims—and the timeline of

events. However, I think it is still too good to be true; because Rizal is a doctor who

swore an oath to save lives and not take them. I was devastated when I read about this

conspiracy; because, Rizal was acknowledged as the national hero of the Philippines, a

brave soul who gave his life for the freedom of his country.
