requirements mention above. The houses were number from one to twenty (1-20) were written each
on a slip of paper.

The slips were then placed in a black plastic bag and shaken up to help decide which household to
go to first, the twenty household were supplied with questionnaires. Some residents were not at
home. Where this occurred the questionnaires were left in the mailbox and those residents who
were at home were given the questionnaires and they were given two days to return to the address
given where that was no possible arrangements were made for collection by the researcher.

INTERPITATION AND ANALYSIS OF DATA

Since the 19th 20th and the 21st century crime has become a major problem across the world and is
also very evident in the community of Franklin Town. I did a research by using the internet and
Miriam Webster dictionary & thesaurus where I found meanings in abundance for crime. Crime is
an act or omission of an act that is forbidden or the duty that is command by public law and that
makes the offender liable to punishment by that law; a gross violent of law which is a grave offense
especially against morality. Anyone that commits a crime is known as a criminal.

There are many contributors of crime and the main one is population size. To get an accurate figure
of the population size of Franklin Town, I send out some questionnaires to help evaluate the
population size of the community. There was a response of seventy five percent (75%) of the
population are female and twenty five percent (25%) are male. Men usually join gangs; they are
high tempered and usually easily get in feud with other people especially other men, causing them
to be killed, be wanted by the police or in police lock-ups causing a decrease in the population size
while the woman are noble and pay more attention to their daily live wood to achieve something
prosperous .

There are mostly new residents living in the community, this was proven by the fifty percent (50%)
of residents who have been living in the community for 1-3 years .This because the old residents
have left the community. After living in the community for 4-7 years period resident tend to leave
this was proven by the ten percent (10%) of response that have been living there for 4-7 years.
There were twenty percent (20%) response each for the residents who have been living in the
community for a 8-7 years and 13-17 years this is because the resident don’t have anywhere else to

18
go and these residents are the elderly the don’t have no relatives to go or they just don’t want to
leave Franklin Town .

Education plays a vital role in everyday life, one can see that with education one can be employed
and learn right from wrong. Education can be classified into three levels: Primary, Secondary and
Tertiary. In the community of Franklin Town it can be estimated that twenty percent (20%) of the
resident attended education at the primary level; these individuals will find it hard to be employed
because they are not fully educated. Approximately seventy (70%) of the residents attended
education at the secondary level; they will find it more it easier to be employed than those who are
at the primary level of education but they will not get there dream jobs. Ten percent (10%) of the
residents in the community are at the tertiary and sometimes get the jobs they always wanted. Not
all the times they get their dream jobs because they are said to be overqualified and somehow be
unemployed, when this happens they contribute to the poverty rate and that leaves crime constant in
the community because when residents are in need of resources, they will find all means and ways
to get it. One of these ways is stealing which is taking something that is not property, another one of
these ways are killing all of these are criminal are act it will increase the crime in the community
and it will decrease the population size.

Gang feud, which is gangs within community fighting each other for the right to control the
community also due by political corruption. Where Gang feud war in the current facility made
headline news in the gleaner is said to be one of the most cause of crime in the community that was
proven by fifteen percent (15%) of residents. The other causes are: poverty, illiteracy and lack of
police in the community. Poverty and illiteracy with a response of thirty percent (30%) each which
they are somehow linked with each other poverty in a community happens when the residents in the
community are not literate enough to be employed. Lack of police in the community is said to be
one of the main cause of the community of Franklin Town this was said by twenty five (25%) of the
residents. They help the decrease the crime level in the community.

The level of co-operation between residents and police is said to be high this was said by fifty
percent (50%) of respondents. There was of thirty percent (30%) said there is no co-operation and a
twenty percent (20%) of the resident said they have a low level of co-operation. Co-operation
between residents and police plays a vital role with securing of residents if co-operation decreases
to less than ten (10%) the will be a massively high crime rate.

19
Crime like any other problem can be resolve, despite the high crime rate in Franklin town. These
are some solution that can be implemented to reduce the crime rate in the community: frequent
patrols, neighbor hood watch out, community safe meeting and employment devolvement program.
Twenty five percent (25%) that the level of crime can be limited by frequent patrols; which the
police being present in the community regularly which will lead to a decrease in the crime level in
the community and the residents will feel more comfortable living in the community . Thirty
percent (30%) says it can be limited by neighborhood watch out; which is neighbors in a
community taking part in taking shifts in watching the community during the night. Twenty
percent (20%) says it can be limited by employment development program; which is the
government implementing programs to reduce the level of employment, so residents can stop
stealing and killing for resources. Twenty five percent (25%) say it can be limited by community
safe meetings; which is residents in the community coming together a specific day in a week to plan
how they can make the community safe for them and their children .

In conclusion, no matter how high the level of crime is it can be reduced by working together in
order to make the place safe for the younger residents.

20
FINDINGS
Survey has revealed a large number of problems with the police protecting the community.

1. It was revealed that are more women in the community than men due to the response
of the questionnaires it was proven that a 75% of the community are women and
25% are men.

2. There are mostly new residents in the community this was proven by the
questionnaires, when the responses of 50% of the residents have been living in the
community for a 1-3 years period.

3. Most residents never have further their education; this was proven by the responses
of only 10% of residents who have attended education at a tertiary level.

21
RECOMMENDATIONS

The important of a crime free community plays a vital role in the life of children in the community
of Franklin Town. In order for the community to become violent free community residents need to
co-operate with the police plays a critical role in minimizing the level of crime and violence
experienced by the community.
Members of the community can further play their part by helping police fighting crime; it revealed
that members of the community are leaving the community due crime.
In order to solve to the problems experienced by the community I would like them to do the
following;
 Write a letter to the commission of police to send police officer to help the
police that already in the community.
 Have a neighborhood watch out night and if they see anything suspicious they
call the police.
 Talk to the MP (Member of Parliament) about the situation and make a legislation
to give criminals a ten years sentence when caught.

Establish a community youth club; this will help the residents of the community co-operate with
each other more. To get the person interested, they will have to put on a football six- a- side and a
netball competition. The reason why this will work is because the youth in the community want a
violent free environment so they will want to engage in recreational activities to help calm their
minds and when the older residents see what they are doing they will also want to join.

22
After school educational program; this will help the young residents of the community in the
academic performance, it will help them to strengthen their weak areas and it will also help the
residents in the community.
