ACT 1: THE BEGINNING
Shaira, a scrawny “probinsyana” who looks more like a teenager rather than an adult in her early twenties,
sets foot in a mid-low class type of town to babysit for an employer the parents of her best friend introduced
to her. This is the only option she has to feed her three siblings. She probably won’t be a slave to other
families if she weren’t lacking both of their parents. Together, they became parentless for almost half a
decade now, and for all of those years, only she and her brother Vien are there to support the whole family
living in a shabby, run-down rent house in the poorest part of Lemery, in Batangas.

One day she heard the news on the radio.

BREAKING NEWS: “Thousands of people are now being infected by the virus called Covid-19.
Government officials are now in full coverage of this virus. Also, people that are in districts with a high case
of infection are now in a 14-day quarantine to lessen the percentage of further infection. The Covid-19
symptoms were dry cough, cold, hard to breathe, and body pain. The worst case is that it could lead to the
death of people with comorbidities and weak immune systems. People were reminded to be safe and
always wear facemasks and sanitize everything using alcohol”

[Talking to herself, she said, “This virus would probably go away in a week or so.” ]

Shaira: “Vien? Where are you? Can you come here a second please?”
Vien: “Yes? How may I help you?”
Shaira: “Could you please tell Wesley and Tracy to stay at home? And Vien please be safe too.”
Vien: “Yes, of course, I will be, excuse me for a second I’m gonna tell it to them right now”

Vien walks towards his two siblings and immediately reaches out to them.

Vien: “Wesley! Tracy! Come here I have something to tell you.”

Wesley: “What is it, brother?”
Tracey: “yes?”
Vien: “Our sister told me that we should stay at home, particularly the both of you”
Wesley & Tracey: “why?”
Vien: “I don’t know if I’m right but I think because of that virus that was stated in the news. It says there that
the virus is infecting thousands of people”
Wesley: “omg!! That’s scary”
Tracey: “I hope those people will get well soon”
Vien: “Yep, I hope so too”
Vien: “Let’s all go back home now please.”
Wesley & Tracey: “Okay big bro”

Saturday morning, on her week off, she went back to their home to visit her siblings. But on the second day,
she heard Vien coughing and sneezing on his t-shirt.
Shaira: “Vien? Are you okay?”
Vien: “Yes sis, this is just a cough nothing more”
Shaira: “Are you sure? we could check you up in a hospital if you want .”
Vien: “Yes, of course, I’m fine sis don’t worry.”
They both brushed the thought that it could be something other than a simple cough and cold brought by
the chilling weather of February. But after resting for a few more days, the whole house was awakened by
the rough coughing sound of Vien.
Shaira: “Vien? Are you sure you’re okay?”
Vien: “Of course”
Shaira: “Vien take a rest and please don’t overwork yourself”
Vien: “Yes sis”
That morning after breakfast, she went back to the family she was babysitting.
Arlyn: “Have you not heard the news? It's locked down for a week. Don't come back here for a week or
so,”
Shaira: “How about my pay, will my off be deducted from my salary?”
Arlyn: “yes.”
Frustrated, she went back home and found Vien laying on the ground barely breathing.
Shaira: “Vien!! what happened??! Tracey?!! Wesley?! Where are you?! Vien please, let me take you to the
hospital, hang in there, please. Vien please.”
Wesley: “I don’t know sis, he was just coughing loudly until he -”
Tracey: “……”
Wesley can’t continue his explanation because he started crying endlessly and worrying too much while
Tracey can’t even open her mouth because she was crying hysterically.
She frantically called for a tricycle so he could be brought to the nearest Hospital.
Shaira: “Vien please hang in there..”

*AT THE HOSPITAL*

Jose: “Ma’am, you can’t go inside, we are now full we can’t accept another patient right now, all the rooms
were occupied and all the nurses and doctors' schedules were full. ”
Shaira: “What?!!”
Jose: “As I said, ma’am, we can’t accept another patient, we’re very sorry.”
Shaira: “Please! Please! Let us in please, m-my brother h-he n-needs help! Please!”
Jose: “I’m sorry ma’am, but we can’t. That is the rule that was implemented by our CEO”
Shaira: “What?! What kind of rule is that? This is a hospital! It is indeed to treat people! b-but why-”
Shaira was now crying her eyes out as her brother could not breathe and they were helpless. Who is she
gonna call for help?
Shaira: “Please hang in there, Vien. We’ll go tomorrow. I’m sure there will be available rooms for you.
Please.”
But days went by and no help came. The hospitals were still jam-packed with Covid-19 patients.
Shaira: “Vien!, hang in there, please. Vien please.”
Wesley: “Bro”
Tracey: “Bro”
It was the longest day of their lives as all of them watched Vien run out of breath as they just stood, weep
and pray for it will soon end. True enough it ended, Vien’s life that is.
ACT 2: SURVIVE
At the time when Vien died, sorrows filled their entire house. The silence resembles their situation. With a
heavy heart, Shaira still manages to stand tall and hug her two siblings to comfort them.
Shaira: “Why did you leave us behind, why? Why does it have to be you, Vien.”
[Shaira whispered to the wind while crying.]
Wesley: “We will miss you, bro, I hope we will meet again soon. Your memories will be here forever with us,
we love you very much, Please rest in peace.”
A few days after the burial of Vien, broken into pieces due to their loss they still manage to survive the days,
staying strong and independent. Shaira is still in full responsibility for the needs of their 2 younger siblings.
Shaira: “Wesley! Tracey! Come here, dinners ready”
Tracey: “Wow! I haven’t eaten adobo for years, I miss this!.”
Wesley:” Hmmm! This is delicious sis!”
Shaira: “Go on eat, both of you because you need to stay healthy and have a strong immune system so
you won’t catch any health problems”
Wesley & Tracey: “YES MADAM! HAHAHA”
Shaira: “Silly”

As the days go by, there is something strange happening to Tracey.

Shaira: “What happened to you Tracey? Why are you coughing too much?”
Tracey: “I don't know I’m just feeling a little sick.”
Shaira: “What? You need to take a rest, let me handle that I’ll go wash these dishes, go take a rest.”
Tracey: “Are you sure? I can take care of them though, I still have the energy”
Shaira: “No, you need to rest”
Tracey: “Ok.”
Day by day her physical appearance changed, she turned skinny, and her cough was louder than usual. a
day later Shaira noticed that his bother Wesley was also experiencing pain.
Wesley: */ coughing loudly.
Shaira: “We need to go to the hospital, go change your clothes, we need to check you to a doctor .”
Tracey: “But we don't have money to pay our hospital bills, sis.”
Wesley: “She's right.”
Shaira: “It's okay, I'll make money no matter what, just to assure your safety.”
Smiling innocently, she expresses her love to them and gives them an assuring thumbs up. For their sake,
she will do anything and everything so she won’t lose anyone again.

*AT THE HOSPITAL*

Shaira and her siblings needed to take a swab test, because the symptoms of her siblings were like the
symptoms of her late brother vien. So they assume that they were infected by a virus as well.
Tracey: “I’m scared, sis.”
Shaira: “Don't worry Tracey, everything will be alright.”
Wesley: “Sis is right Tracey, don't be scared okay? We’re here.”
Tracey: “Okay”
Later on, they found out that they were infected by the virus. They were locked down in their own house
because there's no vacant room in Hospitals or any covid-19 facilities.
Wesley: “What are we gonna do sis? We don't have enough money to buy our food and medicine”
Tracey: “Sis what are we gonna do now?”
Shaira hugged both of her siblings and accompany them to seat with her. Comforting them with the words
she wishes to hear.
Shaira: “Don't worry, sis is here, I’ll fight for us okay? Just hang in there, I love you both so much. Also, I
believe that our barangay captain will take care of us.”
Shaira is nervously thinking about the next 14 days of their quarantine because they are not fully prepared
for this and also there is no food and medicine in their home that her two siblings need, besides. Her
problem is the severe symptoms, they might catch these symptoms due to her siblings being thin and
lacking in nutrients.

Sitting silently and peacefully eating, a sudden news caught their attention.

BREAKING NEWS: “A new typhoon has entered the Philippine area of responsibility with maximum
sustained winds of 100 kph and has set course on the north side of the country. The president has set to
signal number 2 at the luzon part of the country. This typhoon would be one of the strongest typhoons that
will hit the country.”
*/ Thunder

[Tracey shouted and started crying]

Tracey: “Sis I’m scared”

Shaira hugged her sister to calm her down.

Shaira: “Don't worry Tracey, sis is here.”

While panicking someone knocked on the door, when she opened it, Shaira saw their Barangay Captain
wearing a PPE or Personal Protective Equipment while holding papers and some canned goods.

Louise: “Hi Shaira! We are here to ask how many are you inside? And there is a paper and thermometer
that you will need for the 14 days of your quarantine.”
Shaira: “I'm with my two younger siblings. Also, we don't have enough food and medicine now.”
The Barangay captain handed the 5 pcs canned goods and 3 kilos of rice to Shaira.
Louise: “For now we only have this but don’t worry I will be back tomorrow for medicine and more food that
you and your siblings need. Sorry, but I really need to go for now.”

After saying those words the Barangay Captain left.

Shaira: “I hope these foods last for our 14-day quarantine.”

A day passed, no help from the barangay came. Fortunately, they have kind neighbors who give them help
even though they are under quarantine, so they can survive for the remaining days of their lockdown
without receiving help from the barangay.
Shaira: “What kind of Barangay Captain is that? She said she will be back but where is she right now? We
can’t even see her shadow. Thanks to our neighbors they gave us enough food, I think? But this is so much
help though, we can survive days with these foods”
Shaira: “ Wesley, Tracey, are you both good? Are you experiencing pain or something strange to your
body?”
Tracey: “Yes I’m good, thank you”
Wesley: “Me too, thanks a lot”
Shaira: “Tell me if you feel something alright? I love you both.”
Tracey & Wesley: “We love you too”
Shaira: “Adding this up, you should at least know how dangerous a thunderstorm is, what is why we need
to be careful and expect the worst possible outcomes, be ready, I think we have flashlights here? On our
cabinet and some candles.”
Wesley: “Yes we have, we are prepared, did you forget already?”
Tracey: “I agree, you teach us this thing before with big brother Vien.”
Shaira: “Ow yeah? tell it to me then, what is a thunderstorm?”
Wesley: “A storm that is characterized by lightning”
Shaira: “Ow, yeah you’re right”
Tracey: “Do you believe us now?”
Shaira: “Yep, I remember now”
Wesley: “Good”

A few days later their barangay captain visited again with a few canned goods.

Louise: “I’m sorry we’re late to come over here, it is because of the typhoon, we need to help the victims of
the typhoon as well, I hope you understand.”
Shaira only nodded, because she thinks that the Barangay Captain is corrupting the Hall and she is
avoiding her responsibility and she uses her power for her selfish preferences.
After that day, due to the corruption of the Barangay Captain, her siblings are suffering more because they
lack food and medicine, and they also feel cold because of the typhoon. But thanks to their neighbors they
give them enough food and medicine, because of that Shaira and her siblings can able survive for the next
few days.

ACT 3: SACRIFICE

After a few days of isolation, Shaira saw that her brothers' condition was deteriorating day by day. The idea
of them becoming worse every day, getting sick and not getting well is making Shaira feel uneasy. It
reminds her of her loving sibling Vien, who has passed away. However, she soon realizes that this will not
happen to her other siblings, and that they will, sooner or later, recover.
Shaira: “Please don’t let history repeat itself, I don’t know if I’ll make it this time, please God.”

Later that night, as she was contemplating, her sister, Tracey, began coughing violently and was unable to
breathe properly. As a result of her quick movements, she approached Tracey.
Shaira: “Hey! Are you okay?! Tell me what’s wrong.”
[Coughing]
Tracey: “…..”
Tracey began coughing blood and breathing heavily.
Shaira: “Tracey! Tracey! Hey! Please God, not her please..”
Shaira runs through the window and hysterically shouted for help, she prevents herself from crying so that
she can function well.
Shaira: “Hello! Can anyone hear me! Please help me, help my sister, she needs-, no, we, we need to take
her to the Hospital, please anyone?!”
Shaira couldn’t do anything as they are on quarantine and there was a typhoon. Regardless of the situation,
Shaira couldn't let Tracey down and chose to take her to the hospital. Whilst arranging things that they will
bring to the hospital, she realizes that her brother, Wesley is quiet. She became intrigued and approached
him. She asks about her brother's well-being, but all he does is point to his stomach, indicating that he is
hungry.
Shaira: “Are you okay?! Tell me what’s wrong.”
With worrying eyes, she looked at him while packing.
Wesley: “Nothing sis, let me just help you there”
Shaira: “Are you sure? Oh my god! I’m so sorry Wesley, I’m sorry but we need to take your sister to the
Hospital you understand that right? right?”
Wesley: “Yes sis, don’t worry I can manage, just bring Tracey to the Hospital please I don’t want to lose
anyone again, can you? Please”
Shaira was feeling sorry for her brother, she was unable to provide food because they have used all of the
canned goods that were supplied to them and there is nothing left. Hopefully, her brother recognizes their
dilemma and has chosen to assist her in packing her belongings. And she was happy that Wesley
understand her but she also feels sad about it.
Shaira: “Thank you, thank you very much, I love you”
Wesley: “I love you more sis”
On their way to the hospital, Tracey's condition is deteriorating. Sadly, they can’t find any transportation for
them to go to the Hospital that is why they decided to walk. While heading towards the nearest hospital,
suddenly it started raining and the road began to get treacherous.
Shaira: “Tracey be careful you might slip, you too Wesley, hold on to me I’ll accompany you”
Wesley: “No need sis I’m good, focus your eyes on Tracey she needs it more”
Shaira: “No, don’t be like that, but I understand you and your right, just be careful please I’m worried about
you too”
Wesley smiled widely and give a warm hug.
Wesley: “Yes sis”
Shaira informed them that a typhoon was approaching and that they should be cautious on their way to the
hospital. They heard a loud beeping sound while strolling, but it was night time and only the lamp post was
to blame. they did not realize that there was a truck that was about to hit them. They didn't quickly avoid the
truck due to the weak light post. Wesley was shielding Shaira and Tracey from being hit by the truck when
it was hit.
Shaira: “NO!! WESLEY!”
The truck caused damage to Wesley in particular. Wesley is still alive but after he was hit by the vehicle
that lost its break, his body can't handle it anymore.
Shaira: “Wesley!! can you hear me? Wesley!?”
Shaira and Tracey hurry over to Wesley's body in a panic. She was sobbing uncontrollably because she
cannot bear it. Wesley's body is deteriorating, and the fact that he is also infected with the virus
exacerbates the situation.

Wesley: "Sis, I can't handle it any longer...you can leave me here...you can take Tracey to the
hospital...you can leave me alone here.,"
Shaira: "No... I can't just leave you here... I can't leave you alone"
Unable to accept Wesley's words. However, as Tracey began coughing again, Shaira realized she had no
choice except to leave her brother.
Shaira: "I'm sorry Wesley, I'm sorry my brother...".
Wesley: "Sis don’t be sorry, it’s okay I fully understand the situation, I’m sacrificing myself for the both of
you, please live for me”
Wesley smiled at them and give them a thumbs-up. His body was giving up slowly until he lost his breathe,
he still have those smiles on his face.
Shaira was sobbing uncontrollably, but she has no choice but to leave Wesley in that position. With tears
streaming down their faces, Shaira and Tracey continued to walk. However, they are determined to travel
to the hospital to bring justice to Wesley's death as a result of his efforts to protect them. Luckily, the
hospital gladly accepts them even though there's a typhoon.

*1 WEEK LATER*

Tracey is now in a normal room, eating and living healthy. And in a day they will both go back now to their
home. The incident about Wesley is unforgivable and unacceptable but they need to even though they still
can’t accept it, they must. Their pain, Shaira’s pain, she was about to give up on that day but she
remembered she still have Tracey. Her sister.
Shaira: "Are you feeling better now? Tracey?”
Tracey: “Yes, thank you, sis you saved my life, you save me I love you”
Shaira: "I love you more, just keep that progress on so we can go home”
Tracey: “Yes madam”
Shaira’s tears flow, she remembered their memories with those words of Tracey.
While crying she murmured.
[God why? I don’t understand anything at all. Why do I need to suffer like this? Why?]

*THE DAY AFTER *

Shaira: "Come on Tracey we’re late, the bus might leave us”
Tracey: “Yes, wait I’m almost done”
Shaira: "Faster please”
Tracey: “Okay okay”
Arriving at the Bus Station, they were both looking for their bus number and seat. After finding their
respective seats, they bought some food that is good for their hunger while the bus was transporting them.
Shaira: "Are you good?”
Tracey: “ahm yes? Why”
Shaira: "Nothing, just asking because I’m worried”
Tracey: “Don’t be paranoid sis, I’m fine and I’m not blaming you for acting like that but please, believe me,
I’m really fine”
Shaira: "hays! Yep I believe you, love u”
Tracey: “I love you more”
They both took a nap because they were still far from their home.
After 6 hours of sleeping, they heard a sound like something had just broken, Shaira stood up, and her
heart starts beating faster.
Shaira: "What was that?”
John: “That was nothing ma’am, no need to worry”
Shaira: “Are you sure? can you check it first?”
John: “Yes we are sure madam, please sit down now”
Shaira: “Okay okay”
Shaira can’t sit still because she feels something strange, that there’s something terrible will happen. She is
becoming more and more conscious of her surroundings. Anxiously thinking, she look at Tracey and make
sure that she is alright, she hugged her and kissed her forehead.
Shaira: “Nothing, go back to sleep now, sis is watching you”
Tracey: “ahm okay? You too sis go back to sleep, your tired too, take a rest you need that the most”
Shaira: “Yes, go back to sleep now”
Tracey: “Okay”
Shaira: “And Tracey, ahm always remember that I'm always here for you, okay?”
Tracey: “Yes, me too.”
Shaira: “You can sleep now”
Tracey: “Okay”

Shaira woke up with tears flowing in her eyes, she misses her lovely siblings. She still can’t understand why,
she still asks for answers. Every day she was praying, praying for the pain to stop, praying for a better life.
But at the end of the day, nothing changed. She can’t handle it anymore and she really wants to give up.
Shaira: “I hope I hugged you both tighter on that day”
*FLASHBACK*
Shaira: “NO!! WESLEY!”
The truck caused damage to Wesley in particular. Wesley is still alive but after he was hit by the vehicle
that lost its break, his body can't handle it anymore.
Shaira: “Wesley!! can you hear me? Wesley!?”
Shaira and Tracey hurry over to Wesley's body in a panic. Shaira is sobbing uncontrollably because she
cannot bear what she sees in Wesley. Wesley's body is deteriorating, and the fact that he is also infected
with the virus exacerbates the situation.
His body was giving up slowly until he lost his breath
he still have those smiles on his face.
Shaira: “Doc. What is the status of my sister? How is she?”
Marlon: “Unfortunately, your sister didn’t handle the disease, her body gave up the moment you reach the
hospital, I’m sorry for your loss, excuse me”

Tracey's body, however, could no longer handle it.

She ran out of words, on this day, the two precious persons in her life died. She broke her promise to
herself.

She shouted in the hallway and released all of her pain.

Shaira: “Why!!!? Why?!! Why me?!! Please explain to me why!!, why does it have to be my family? Why. It
hurts so much, it hurts”
She fell asleep in the hallway because she loses so much energy and it drained her even more when she
heard the news. Shaira starved herself for a week, her daily routine was drinking only water and sleeping
the whole day. Her nurses were so worried about her but they can’t do anything at all.

*END OF FLASHBACK*

Shaira: “Tracey, I dreamed of you again, we were both going home and I don’t know what happens next
but as I see, even in my dreams you were meant to leave too.”

After that day, she started hurting herself for a whole month and because of self-sabotaging, Shaira
eventually died. Her body was very weak and she harms herself secretly. With a weak body, she also
catches anemia due to blood deficiency. Her story was tragic, permanently written in the universe. She was
mysterious yet beautiful. Her family wasn’t perfect but their love for each other is what makes them perfect.
She loves her family so much that she loved them until her last breath, she eventually followed them to
reunite.
In the castle behind the clouds, they were laughing and happily playing. In this place they are free from the
pain, she was free from the tragedies that happened to her life. She can now say that she was genuinely
happy because she’s with them now, she’s with her family.
Shaira: “I love you all”
Vien, Wesley & Tracey: “We love you too sis”
Shaira: “I love you, mom and dad”
Jessica & Jordan: “We love you too.”
Shaira: “Mom, I just want to ask, why did you leave us back then?”
Jessica: “We didn't leave you, we were forced . I was pregnant back then and the moment I gave birth to
your sister an earthquake accured. I needed to hand you to the Emergency team, for you to survive. And
the moment I hand you to them, I received the news that your father died, he was trapped in our house and
he didn't survive the earthquake.”
Shaira: “Now I fully understand, thank you mom, for saving us."

Shaira hugged her mother and father tightly. Smiling widely, she is now in peace, peace not only to herself
but with her family as well.
