Game cheats using Cheat Engine

It is recommended that you back up your save game files before using this method. I have yet to
encounter a corrupted save or error of any kind, but when editing memory locations you could
potentially damage your save file.

Step 1: Visit www.cheatengine.org or search for Cheat Engine and download the current version. (I have
version 6.0 and can verify that the current file from the official website is virus and spyware
free. If bundled with additional programs such as Norton 360 do not install the other programs)

Step 2: Launch Cheat Engine (requires administrative privileges)

Step 3: Launch The Witcher 2. Load a save or create a new game. (Since this method requires swapping
between the game and the cheat engine window often it’s advised to launch the game using
lower graphics settings than usual and in windowed mode.)

Step 4: Alt-Tab to change your active window from the game to the CheatEngine window. Click on the
menu item “Process” and select from the top of the list generated “Open Process Window”.

Scroll though the available processes and select “witcher2.exe”. By default your window should
look like the screenshot below, if for some reason settings are different, change them to the
below settings.
Step 5: Decide what you want to change. I’ve changed the value of Orens (money), Inventory Item
Amounts, Experience, and Ability Points so far all with no ill effect. For this example we’ll be
changing the current amount of money.

Step 6: Reference your game for your current amount of Orens. In this example I’ve already modified my
Orens and currently have 80,583.
Enter your current Oren amount (without comma) into the “Value” field and then click the “First
Scan” Button.
Step 7: Cheat Engine should scan your game for all memory locations with the value of your current
Oren amount. This however usually returns several results. In my case it returned 37 memory
locations with the value of 80583. In order to figure out which memory location we would like to
change we will need to re-enter the game and change our current Oren amount. In this example
I sell several items to a vendor and end up with a new Oren value of 80666.

Step 8: Enter your new (2nd) Oren value into the “Value” field and click “Next Scan”. This scans the
currently selected memory locations for any that have changed from your first value to your
second value.
Step 9 (If necessary): Usually step 8 limits the memory addresses found to 1 however occasionally
multiple locations are still found. Simply repeat steps 7 and 8 until only 1 memory address is
found with your current Oren value.

Step 10: Double click the address location in the left window. This loads the memory location into the
bottom window where it is editable.
Double click on the “Value” field in the lower window and change the current value to the
desired value and then click “OK”.
Return to your game and your new value should be in effect. If you have your “Item” window
open, the new Oren value will not immediately show up, simply close the item window and re-
open it to see the refreshed value.
Have fun editing your game. Again I’ve added Orens, added Items (using the quantity as the search
value), added ability points**, and added XP*.

*Note on adding XP – 1,000 XP = 1 level. Un-modded the max level is 35 so 35,000 XP is all you need to
reach max level. Any XP over that value will still only unlock level 35. Changes to
XP and level are not immediate in game. It appears you can only level by acquiring
XP in the game. Each time you gain XP however you will level once. For instance if
you start a new game and change your XP to 35000 you will need to gain XP 34
times to level up from 1 to 35. Even so you can easily hit level 35 within the
prologue.

**Note on ability points – Adding ability points is a bit tricky as you only get one per level and therefore
must save up a few ability points to discover the proper memory address in
steps 7-9. I recommend adding XP and leveling up a few times so you have the
ability points to spend in the memory address discovery steps 7-9.
Screenshots from the game are shown using the” zero weight mod” and “all abilities have mutagen
slots” mod.

If you have any questions feel free to contact me through The Witcher Nexus. I will try to help you as
best I can. I did not invent this method and am only writing this guide in order to teach others what I
have been taught. I don’t have any degree in computer science or anything so I apologize in advance if
your question is highly technical and I’m unable to answer it.
