Orsino- orisino’s characteristics

 Melodramatic- why I think that Orsino is melodramatic and self-indulged is cause in

act 1scene1 we see orison expressing his feelings about Olivia, while Olivia was
morning her dead brother, Orsino without considering Olivia’s feelings, prefers to
lock himself up with his sorrows and mope around his homes.
 His obsession with love- Orsino doesn’t know what love means, only that he wants
love and so he thinks/believes that he is in love with Olivia. Even though he has
never spoken to Olivia in the play.
 Orsino little regards to Olivia’s feelings/ and his obsession to own Olivia.
 His mood swings, changeable- “tis not sweet now as it was before”.

Feste- feste’s characteristics (jester/fool)

 in the play feste is the jester hired by Olivia, feste is who should make Olivia happy
so he does foolish things to make her happy, and is called a fool, but that is his
profession and, in real life, he is a sharp, observant, clever and wise person, who is
able to put on a good comic act.
 Side note- he is someone Olivia constantly askes opinions from

Olivia- Olivia’s characteristics

 She is fond of Feste,

 relies on Malvolio, and has her patience strained by her uncle Toby.
 She is nevertheless caring and patient,
 as demonstrated in her treatment of Malvolio when he appears to lose his mind.

Malvolio- Malvolio characteristics

 Malvolio is very efficient but also very self-righteous, and he has a poor opinion of
drinking, singing, and fun.
 His priggishness and haughty attitude earn him the enmity of Sir Toby, Sir
Andrew, and Maria, who play a cruel trick on him, making him believe that Olivia
is in love with him.

Sir toby- sir toby characteristics

 Sir Toby is actually a sharp, witty person who, even when he is drunk, is capable
of making a good pun or of creating an ingenious and humorous plot complication.
 For example, he appreciates Maria not for her looks or for romantic matters, but
because she is capable of contriving such a good joke against Malvolio.
Sir Andrew- sir Andrew characteristics
 One of the supporting characters
 Sir Andrew is a stereotypical fool
 who is goaded into unwisely duelling with Cesario and who is slowly having his
money pilfered by Sir Toby Belch.
 He is dim-witted, vain and clownish

Sabastian- Sabastian characteristics

 Sebastian is noble and capable of strong, deeply felt emotion, just like his sister.
 The constant powerful love he shows while grieving and when reunited with Viola
contrasts Orsino's and Olivia's relatively frivolous emotions.
 He is also the only major character in the play who never engages in deception.

Antonio- Antonio characteristics

 Antonio has a sensitive side.

 He doesn't speak many lines in Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, but every appearance
he makes reinforces his essential character traits: loyalty, courage, and
forthrightness.
 His unrequited love for Sebastian drives his action throughout the play.
Fabian- Fabian characteristics

 Fabian doesn't play a necessary role in the plot of the Twelfth Night.
 Yet he does offer an extra dose of humor.
 Since he enjoys pranks he is always ready to begin another prank, which leads to
many more humorous situations.
 The role that Fabian plays is one that allows the audience to feel as though he is
one of them.

Maria- Maria characteristics

 She is a servant in Olivia's household.

 Maria is shown to have a friendly relationship with Sir Toby Belch, and exhibits a
witty attitude.
