Feste- feste’s characteristics (jester/fool)
in the play feste is the jester hired by Olivia, feste is who should make Olivia happy
so he does foolish things to make her happy, and is called a fool, but that is his
profession and, in real life, he is a sharp, observant, clever and wise person, who is
able to put on a good comic act.
Side note- he is someone Olivia constantly askes opinions from
Feste quotes
Cucullus non facitmonachum; that’s as much to say, as I wear not motley in my
brain. Act 1scene 5
The more fool, Madonna, to mourn for your brother’s soul being in heaven. Act 1
scene five

The tailor made thy doublet of changeable taffeta, for thy mind is a very opal. Act
2 scene 3
Foolery, sir, does walk about the orb like the sun, it shines everywhere. Act 2
scene 4
Malvolio is very efficient but also very self-righteous, and he has a poor opinion of
drinking, singing, and fun.
His priggishness and haughty attitude earn him the enmity of Sir Toby, Sir
Andrew, and Maria, who play a cruel trick on him, making him believe that Olivia
is in love with him.
Sir Toby is actually a sharp, witty person who, even when he is drunk, is capable
of making a good pun or of creating an ingenious and humorous plot complication.
For example, he appreciates Maria not for her looks or for romantic matters, but
because she is capable of contriving such a good joke against Malvolio.
Sir Andrew- sir Andrew characteristics
One of the supporting characters
Sir Andrew is a stereotypical fool
who is goaded into unwisely duelling with Cesario and who is slowly having his
money pilfered by Sir Toby Belch.
He is dim-witted, vain and clownish
Sebastian is noble and capable of strong, deeply felt emotion, just like his sister.
The constant powerful love he shows while grieving and when reunited with Viola
contrasts Orsino's and Olivia's relatively frivolous emotions.
He is also the only major character in the play who never engages in deception.
Fabian doesn't play a necessary role in the plot of the Twelfth Night.
Yet he does offer an extra dose of humor.
Since he enjoys pranks he is always ready to begin another prank, which leads to
many more humorous situations.
The role that Fabian plays is one that allows the audience to feel as though he is
one of them.
