0 INTRODUCTION

What are guidance and counseling? Guidance and counseling is a method to help
individual that need some kind of help to support and assist to alleviate their problems. For
our group assignment this semester, we are able to discuss current issues which as gadget
addiction disorder among children.

Digital technologies such as tablets, smartphones, the internet, and gadgets are
among the devices that impact children. Statistics have shown more than 60 percent of
children have a 'smartphone'. It becomes a problem when parents ignore the children while
using gadgets. There are still some parents who do not know about the negative impact that
will occur on their child if the usage of this excess gadget is not emphasized. Insomnia,
damage to eyesight, speech delay, learning problems, and anxiety are the negative effects for
children who are addicted to gadgets.

At the age of young which is early 2 to 6 years old, parents are inclined to give
gadgets to their children. For early childhood nowadays gadgets is toys that have a high
attraction because it has attractive visuals and sound images from various videos and games
on the gadget that makes children addicted to continue playing it. The gadget also negatively
impacts the children because they spend a lot of time on the screen and are able to skip their
meals, sleep, do their homework, or spend time with family and friends.

Nowadays, parents think that modern life will be easier with the gadget. Steve Jobs,
known as the father of technology did not allow his children to use any gadget on school days
and if his children want to use the gadget on weekends it must have a time limit. There are
some tips on how to use the device prudently such as monitoring the application or games
that the children are using, do not let the children surf the internet unattended, and give a time
limit to the children when using the device.

The use of gadgets in children is indeed the responsibility of parents at home. It is

important for parents to be aware of the negative effects that children will experience if the
gadget's use is uncontrolled and well monitored.
