Sheet Pile Walls

(duration of task : 3 weeks)

Problem No 1
a) What are the used of sheet pile walls?
b) Several types of sheet pile are commonly used in construction. What are they? Please,
explain your answer!

Problem No 2 Cantilever Sheet Pile Walls (Penetrating on Sand)

In Figure 1, let L1 = 2,75, 3.00, 3.25 m,

L2 = 7.75, 8.00, 8.25 m,
 = 16, 16.5 kN/m3, sat = 18, 18.5 kN/m3,
w = 9.81 kN/m3 and ’= 30o, 32o

Questions:
a) Find the theoretical depth of penetration, D.
b) Increase of D by 30%. What length of sheet piles
is needed?
c) Determine the theoretical maximum moment in
the sheet pile.

Figure 3.
Let L1 = 3.75, 4.00, 4,25 m,
L2 = 7.75, 8.0, 8.25 m, l1 = 1.5m,
 = 17, 17.5 kN/m3, sat = 18.5, 19 kN/m3,
w = 9.81 kN/m3 and ’= 35o (assume that
soils are loose sand).

Questions:
a) Calculate the theoretical value of the
depth of embedment, D.
b) Draw the pressure distribution diagram.
c) Determine the anchor force per unit
length of the wall.
