ADA Compliance and Universal Design for Learning (UDL)

ADA Compliance Definition

According to WebFX, ADA Compliance refers to the Americans with Disabilities Act for
Accessible Design, which states that all electronic and information technology (like websites) must be
accessible to people with disabilities.

 According to UNESCO Bangkok (2020) Approximately 15% of the world’s


population, 1representing more than 1 billion people, live with disabilities, and 2% to 4% find
day-to-day life challenging without assistance.
 Republict Act No. 7277 Sec. 12 the State shall ensure that disabled persons are provided
with adequate access to quality education and ample opportunities to develop their skills,
and shall take appropriate steps to make such education accessible to all disabled persons. It
shall be unlawful for any learning institutions to deny a disabled person admission to any
course it offers by reason of handicap or disability. The State shall take into consideration
the special requirements of disabled persons in the formulation of education policies and
program. It shall encourage learning institutions to consider the special needs of disabled
persons with respect to the use of school facilities, class schedules, physical education
requirements and other pertinent consideration. The State shall also promote the provision
by learning institutions, of auxiliary services that will facilitate the learning process for
disabled persons.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Definition

According to the National Center on Universal Design for Learning, UDL is a set of


principles for curriculum development that gives all individuals equal opportunities to learn. It
also provides a blueprint for creating instructional goals, methods, materials, and assessments
that work for everyone.
