THE PETRIFIED PEOPLE

One beautiful, sunny morning, I woke up to find my mom

yelling in excitement. I quickly changed from my cozy night gown to my
everyday clothes. I quickly ran downstairs to find her peaking in the
mailbox. I had applied for admission in the famous Pondicherry School
Of Witchcraft And Wizardry. This school came in the topmost
category of the magical institutes and I had heard many rumors of its
excellent curriculum, friendly atmosphere, excellent maintenance
etc.Well I found out that my admission letter had been accepted and I
would be joining with the other first years at the start of the session
two or three weeks later.

Excitement bubbled inside me like a fizzy soda and I

couldn’t wait to go to the school. Soon all those restless weeks passed
and I was in front of the school staring at the enormous buildings and
looking through the lengthy schedule for my classes. Few weeks passed
and I had settled perfectly in the friendly environment of the school.
One day I had an encounter with a tall fifth year student. Her eyes
were filled with terror and her hands quivering with fear. She
stammered and said, “The Red Door.” I was horrified because our
headmaster had forbidden us never to go near that door. I ignored her
but could never get the thought of the door away from my mind. Then
one day after my potion class, I sneakily went to the back of the school
and gathered up my strength to open the door. I went inside quivering
with fear and accidently stepped on a button and an alarm broke out. I
panicked and was just about to leave the room when suddenly the door
closed and a strange voice came from one corner of the room saying,”
You have disturbed the sleep of the mighty dragon, now the whole of
Pondicherry school must pay for it .”

The next day, I came across a group of students huddled

up in a circle. I made my way through them to find a student petrified.
In the next few days some more cas3es reported and I found out that
it was all because of the red door. It was my entire fault and now I had
to do something about it.

I went back to the red door to ask the dragon for the
solution and tried to fix the problem which I had caused. The dragon
replied, “The only way to solve such problems is to take the life of the
person who caused it.” I hesitated for a moment but then willingly gave
my life just hoping to see the peace and discipline of the school return.
The problem was solved and the people petrified recovered and no
more cases were further reported since then.
