1.1 System Introduction

A solar power system is used to convert solar energy into electricity and store the electricity.
It consists of the PV modules, charge controller, storage batteries, loads, and so on.
ZXDT02 SC50 is a solar charge controller. It converts the nonlinear output voltage of PV
modules into -48 VDC that is required by communications equipment. Meanwhile. the
charge controller provides multiple functions, such as battery management, monitoring,
and DC distribution.
Figure 1-1 shows the location of the charge controller in a solar power system.

cells

Over-current and The charge controller provides over-current and short-circuit

short-circuit protection protection functions through DC output circuit breakers. The
for loads breakers must be manually turned on after being off.

Open circuit protection In case of battery open circuit, if solar cells charge normally,
for storage batteries the charge controller restricts the terminal voltage of the
load for protection.

Over-discharge The over-discharge protection is performed through the

protection for storage LLVD1 and LLVD2 functions. In case of over-discharge, the
batteries buzzer reports an alarm to the remote PC.

Over-charge protection The PUs provide the Current Limit (CL) function, thus
for storage batteries preventing storage batteries from being overcharged.

charged in equalized mode with current limited for
a long time. The system does not switch from the
equalized charge mode to the floating charge mode
directly, which maximizes the PV utilization ratio.
l Intelligent current limit management
l LLVD1 and LLVD2
l Low-temperature voltage disconnection

Maximum Power Point Track (MPPT ) The PUs provide the MPPT function, which tracks the
function maximum power points.

3. Current distribution: In normal situations (such as sunny days with sufficient sunlight),
the PV module supplies power to both the battery and the load. In abnormal situations
(such as overcast weather or rainy days with insufficient sunlight), both the PV module
and the battery supply power to the load. When no PV input is available (for example,
at night), only the battery supplies power to the loads.
