QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH SAMPLING

A. Is One Enough?

DIRECTIONS: Determine what variation of sample is used on the given examples. Write a
brief explanation about your answer. Use your notebook or a separate sheet of paper for your
answers.

1. Patrick can't decide on who to choose as the respondent in each class he handles. He
has 36 lists. He then thought of having the 7th person from each list to be chosen.

2. Mark is doing a survey and wants to know why people prefer fast food A over fast food
B. His last resort to have first-hand data is to stand outside fast food A which is beside
fast food B. He asks people coming in and out of fast food B randomly for their
thoughts.

3. Jaira has been residing in City A since she was young. She loves the city so much and
wonders why people feel the same about the city. In order for her to know the answer,
she has to use the 9 barangays of the city as clusters. From there, she can randomly
choose 3 clusters to participate in her study and collect the data she needs.

B. The Rightful Number

DIRECTIONS: Calculate the sample size needed in each given research scenario. Use your
notebook or a separate sheet of paper for your answers.

1. There are 500 government employees in the city you’re living in, and you want to
conduct a survey to find out which skills are best suited to their jobs. You decided to
set the margin of error at 0.05 in this study.

2. Lynie wants to conduct a research in her school. If the school has a total number of
students of 850, solve for the sample size needed using 10% margin of error.

3. From the given population in each grade level and using 3% margin of error, the
sample size is 875. Using stratified sampling, determine the number of samples per
strata as indicated below:
Grade Level Population Percentage Sample
7 547 (?) (?)
8 550 (?) (?)
9 473 (?) (?)
10 520 (?) (?)
11 565 (?) (?)
12 535 (?) (?)
Total (?) 100% 875

Note:
Total Population = sum of all grade level population
Percentage = (grade level population / total population) x 100
Sample = (grade level percentage / 100) x total sample

RESEARCH INSTRUMENT
A. Survey says…

DIRECTIONS: Make an evaluation sheet (criteria/ factors and scale) based on the given
research scenario and write a brief explanation about your answer. Use your notebook or a
separate sheet of paper for your answers.

Example:
Aurora, a teacher, wants to determine how frequent do her students use social media
platforms in a week. She made use of a 5-point Likert scale for frequency.

Social
5 4 3 2 1
Media Total
Always Often Sometimes Rarely Never
Platforms
Facebook
Twitter
Instagram
Youtube
Pinterest
Snapchat
TikTok
Total

Brief explanation:
Presented above is a questionnaire about how frequent students use different social
media platforms in a week. A 5-point Liker scale for frequency will help the researcher to
identify the social media platform mostly used by students.

1. Aimee wants to determine if her new concocted milk tea flavor will be accepted by her
customers and will soon become a top-selling milk tea flavor. She conducted a test
wherein she let 100 random customers to taste test the newly concocted flavor and let
them answer an evaluation sheet. She made use of a 5-point Likert scale for
acceptability.

2. Dina, a school principal, wants to evaluate the modules written by her teachers. She
made use of a 5-point Likert scale for satisfaction.

Interactive Log Book: A Tool in Improving the Academic

Research
RFGLandrito (2020)
In an attempt to enhance students’ interests and skills in research,
this study designed and used the Interactive Log book as an
intervention strategy to address the identified needs of students
concerning their research skills.
The researcher introduced the Interactive Log Book – a learning
tool that improves students’ learning and behavior. It allows flows of
information between a student, a student’s persona, a teacher, and
a parent. The aforementioned tool is divided into four (4) parts
namely: (1) Lecture Notes, (2) Student’s Reflection, (3) Enrichment,
Research
and (4) Parent’s Feedback.
Objectives
This study included randomly selected 30 Accountancy, Business,
and Management (ABM) students of Cupang Senior High School for
the school year 2019 – 2020. It focused on the general weighted
average and notes of students who used the interactive log book
and standard notebook.
In order to differentiate the physical appearance of the interactive
log book and standard notebook, the researcher asked the student
to use the commercial log books used for records and standard
notebook.
