Course Reflection_LEG 107- Introduction to Paralegal Studies_Discussion 11

Through this course, I have learned that a paralegal performs various duties such as conducting
legal research. In legal research, a paralegal gathers relevant information that is pertinent to
the case. He/she handles administrative tasks in a law office, and this includes organizing files,
answering calls and filing papers. This includes maintenance of a schedule for the attorney,
calling witnesses, clients, court personnel, experts, and lawyers to schedule meetings, trials,
depositions, and interviews. Another role is to assist the lawyer in preparing for the hearing,
trials, and closings; it is done by preparing a written report that a lawyer uses to determine how
a to handle a case. Paralegals are also in charge of drafting legal documents which include
correspondence and pleadings such as subpoenas, legal briefs, pretrial orders, deposition
notice, and interrogatories. Besides, paralegals are in charge of coordination, communication,
and maintains repository of present court rules.
I have learned the importance of legal skills such as logical reasoning, problem-solving abilities,
organization skills which will be helpful in my future career. The course has also enlightened me
with communication skills and multitasking skills which are essential not only in a legal field; but
also in other industries as well.
