Preface

Gratitude goes to the presence of Allah, the Almighty God who has
bestowed His grace so that this General Chemistry Practicum Manual 2
can be compiled correctly. The General Chemistry Practicum Guide 2 for
the 2019 curriculum is a development of the General Chemistry
practicum, which initially existed in semester 1. The curriculum change
separates general chemistry material into two parts: General Chemistry
1 and General Chemistry 2. Therefore, it is necessary to reform the
composition of the subject and the content of the practicum.

This manual provides the same practicum flow as the General

Chemistry Practicum Manual 1, which provides procedures for students
to do a practicum and guides students to design their practicum with
guidance from lecturers and practicum assistants. In this manual, each
practicum title consists of orientation and project activities. Orientation
is carried out like a conventional practicum and provides students with
skills and knowledge to complete their projects. Project activities begin
with group and class discussions to determine steps to solve the
problem.

Hopefully, General Chemistry Practicum 2 activities with these steps can

develop students' abilities in inquiry, solve problems, and increase their
creativity.

Finally, this manual is still the beginning in developing a practicum

model applied in the Chemistry Education Study Program. As a first
step, this manual is still far from perfect. Therefore, criticism and
suggestions are still needed to improve further improvement.

Practicum 1. Wear a laboratory coat and other safety equipment that you need before
starting the practicum
2. Enter one by one according to the attendance list. Your assistant will call
your name
3. For the second week of practicum, you will be asked to submit a
practicum report to your assistant. Place it on the table provided
4. Put your bags and items that are not related to the practicum on the table
provided. You are only allowed to bring a practicum flowchart,
provisional reports, stationery, and identification cards
5. Sit in the place provided according to your group while waiting for all
class members to enter the laboratory room
6. After all class members enter the laboratory room, pay attention to the
explanation of the lecturer or assistants regarding your practicum.
7. Make a list of borrowed tools and prepare your identification cards
8. Borrow tools from the laboratory staff, check the tools you borrow, if
there are damaged tools or you are in doubt, immediately consult a
laboratory assistant or assistant. Any damage to the equipment after you
leave the lending table will be your responsibility and must be replaced
with a new tool
9. Make sure your equipment is clean and safe before using it for practicum
10. Carry out practicum activities according to the assistant's instructions or
explanations or according to what has been agreed upon with the
knowledge of the lecturer or assistants
11. Take practicum materials only as needed. Excessive taking of practicum
materials is not permitted. You may have to queue and take turns with
other groups. Do it in an orderly manner. Do not move the pipette or
spoon from one container to another, as this will result in material
contamination
12. Write down all the data you need and or other exciting things. Use a
temporary report sheet to record your data. Discuss with your group
whether data collection has been sufficient or needs to be repeated
13. When you're done, tidy up your table. Dispose of liquids and solids at the
designated place.
14. Clean the appliance before returning it. Your assistant or laboratory
assistants will check the equipment that you return. If there is nothing

Types of Practicum Activities

In this GeneralChemistry Practicum 2, there are two practicum activities as in
General Chemistry Practicum 1, namely Orientation and Projects
Orientation
Orientation activities are practicum activities that lead you to problems that
you have to solve in project activities. The orientation practicum activity is
carried out one week before the project. In orientation, you will be given
knowledge and skills in the form of practicum with predetermined steps. This
activity will be helpful to design stages in a problem-solving project.

In project activities, you will be asked to solve problems. The steps you must
take in solving this project problem are
Project
1. Discuss with your group precisely what the problem that is being
given to your group
2. Discuss how to solve the desired problem
3. Discuss what steps need to be taken to solve the problem
4. Discuss the practicum work steps that your group will do
5. Report to your assistants whether your work steps can be implemented
or still needs improvement
6. Carry out your work steps in the specified week
Practicum Journal
The practicum journal contains the primary steps carried out in practicum
activities accompanied by data obtained during the practicum
The practicum journal is individually prepared before you enter the practicum
room. The practicum journal contains the following.

1. Name/NIM :
2. Experiment :
3. Date of Experiment :
4. Asistent :
5. Experiment Title :
