Fractions
A fraction is written in the form a/b, where a and b are whole numbers and b cannot be zero. The
number a, is called numerator, the number b, is called denominator.
2 1 5 2
Example 1: , , , 𝑎𝑛𝑑 1
5 4 3 3
Example 2: In a class of of 40 students, 23 are girls. We can name the part of the class that are girls
23
as .
40
To convert a fraction to decimal, starting with the units’ digit of the numerator, count off to the left
the number of zeros in the denominator.
Place the decimal point to the left of the last digit counted.
Add zeros if there are not enough digits to the left of the numerator.
Let go of the denominator.
Example:
27
Convert to decimal number.
1000
= 0.027
2
Convert to decimal number.
5
2÷ 5 = 0.4
How to convert fraction to percent?
To convert fraction to percent, start with dividing the numerator to its denominator.
Perform the conversion of decimal to percent by moving the decimal to the right side by two places
or multiply the decimal by 100.
Examples:
1
1. =0.25=25 %
4
4
2. =0.8=80 %

Decimals
A decimal or decimal fraction is a proper fraction with denominator in multiples of 10 (10,100,1000, etc.)
To convert a decimal to fraction, the numerator is the number without the decimal point and the
denominator is 1 followed by the number of zeros in the decimal places.
Example:
16
¿
100
16 ÷ 4
¿
100÷ 4
4
¿
25
To convert decimal to percent, multiply the decimal by 100%. This is equivalent to moving the
decimal point two places to the right and appending the % sign.
Example:
1. 0.35 = 0.35 x 100% = 35%
2. 0.175 = 0.175 x 100% = 17.5%
3. 1.2 = 1.2 x 100% = 120%
Percent
A percent which means “per hundred” is a representation of a fraction whose denominator is 100.
Thus, expressing a number in percent is like comparing it with100.
Examples:
25 88 3
25 %= 88 %= 3 %=
100 100 100
To convert percent to fraction, we put the percentage number over a denominator of 100, and reduce
to lowest terms.
Examples:
14 14 ÷2 7
1. 14 %= = =
100 100÷ 2 50
125 125 ÷ 5 5 1
2. 125 %= = = =1
100 100 ÷ 5 4 4
0.5 125 × 10 5 5 ÷5 1
3. 0.5 %= = = = =
100 100 × 10 1000 1000 ÷5 200
How to convert percent to decimal?
To convert percent to decimal, divide the percent by 100%. This is equivalent to moving the decimal
point two places to the left and dropping off the % sign.
Examples:
1. 75% = .75
2. 1.468% = .01468
3. 239% = 2.39
To compute the percent of a number, convert the percent into a decimal number by moving the
decimal point two places to the left and then multiply this decimal number to the given number.
Examples:
