 LESSON 2.

1: Fraction to Decimal
1. Change Fraction to Decimal

Yet, in changing fraction to decimalanother method you should know is to follow these steps:

 Step 1: Find a number you can multiply by denominator to make it 10, or 100, or 1000,
or any 1 followed by 0’s.
 Step 2: Multiply both numerator and denominator by that number.
 Step 3. Then write down just the numerator, putting the decimal point in the correct spot
(one space from the right hand side to left for every zero in the denominator)

Examples:

3
a. Convert   to a decimal.
4

 Step 1: We can multiply 4 by 25 to become 100

 Step 2: Multiply numerator and denominator by 25,

x 25

3 75
=
4 100

x 25
 Step 3: Write down 75, and move the decimal point2 spaces from the right to left since
100 has 2 zeros.

75
=0.75
100

3
 Therefore, =0.75

b. Change to decimal.
8

 Step 1: We can multiply 8 by 125 to become 1000

 Step 2: Multiply numerator and denominator by 125,

x 125
1 125
=
8 1000

x 125
 Step 3: Write down 125, and move the decimal point 3 spaces from the right to left since
1000 has 3 zeros.

125
=0.125
1000

1
 Therefore, =0.125

c. Convert to decimal.
10

 Please take note that the denominator of a fraction is given as a power of 10.
In this case, all you have to do is to write down 9, and move the decimal point 1 place
from right to left since 10 has 1 zero.

9
 Therefore, =0.9
10
