Complicated relation with mother

Let me first explain the rules. Any analysis involved mainly

three things – concerned houses, house lords and the karaka.
Analysis should be done on the D1 chart. Other D charts have
some role to play to judge the strength of the concerned planet
regarding a specific aspect of life, but not for general analysis.
For the mother, only one house matters – 4th house, and the
karaka of the mother is Moon. So we have to see the
condition of the 4th house, placement of the 4th lord and
Moon in D1 chart.

If 4th house is unstable, that indicates native will be deprived

of mother's love. When checking the stability of a house, one
has to pay attention to whether the house is getting influenced
by the house lord or its friends. The influence of the house
lord or its friends is going to stabilize the house. On the other
hand, the afflictions caused by enemies will destabilize the
house. If the 4th house is afflicted by 6th, 8th or 12th lords
that also indicates native will be deprived of mother's love.
When the 4th house gets connected with 6th, it forms enmity
between native and the mother. When the 4th house or lord
gets connected with the 8th house or lord that indicates health
issues of the mother. It also indicates unnecessary arguments
between the native and his mother. If 4th lord or Moon is
afflicted that also indicate health issues of Mother. It also
suggests that due to the mother's fault, the relationship is not
good with the native. If Ketu is in 4th house, native won't be
happy with his mother. He always complains about his mother
and finds fault. If the 4th lord is placed in 11th house that
indicates native will be benefitted in many ways from his
mother because 11th house is the house of gains. It also
creates a long term friendly relation with mother, as 11th
house indicates long term friendship also. However, the same
placement won't be good for the health of the mother as it is
8th from 4th. In this case, usually after the native's birth,
mother's health deteriorates.

Now let's move on to an example chart. In this chart, the

ascendant is Aries. Fourth house Cancer is ruled by Moon. So
things boil down to just two factors – 4th house and the
condition of Moon. The noteworthy thing in this chart is the
placement of the Moon. It is a very uncomfortable position
for the Moon. Moon is generally scared of Rahu, Ketu and
Saturn. Their afflictions cause different types of troubles. For
example, Ketu blocks the activity and expression of any
associated planet, Rahu with Moon causes delusion and
makes the person prone to take wrong decisions. Saturn
creates suffering and depression.

In this chart, Moon is in conjunction with Saturn and also gets

12th aspect from Rahu. The sign is Capricorn – not a friendly
sign for Moon because the lord is Saturn. The only thing that
could have saved Moon is the benefic influence of Jupiter.
However, Jupiter is not aspecting it. The Moon is getting the
4th aspect of Mars, but that won't solve the problem. So in
short, Moon, which is both the 4th lord and karaka is in a
terrible position.

Now, let's focus on the 4th house. 4th house is getting

aspected by Saturn. There could be confusion whether
Saturn's aspect is good or bad for the 4th house as Saturn is
placed in his own house. Remember that Saturn is the enemy
of the Moon. So though Saturn is well placed, Saturn's aspect
is destabilizing the house. Again situation could have been
better if there were some "positive" influence – for example,
the aspect of Jupiter. But it is not there.

Another confusion can arise. The fourth lord Moon also

aspecting the 4th house, which is good. Can it nullify Saturn's
evil influence? Now, you have to check the qualitative things.
The fourth house is getting only two aspects – one from Moon
and the other one from Saturn. As I explained before, the
condition of the Moon is terrible. On the other hand, Saturn is
well placed and powerful. So Saturn will get the upper hand.

So we can safely predict that the relationship of the native

with his mother is a complicated one. The native will be
deprived of mother's love and affection. I know the person
very well. They have an extremely uneasy relation. His
mother does not even bother to cook for him. In Indian
culture, it is very unusual. He cooks for himself and goes to
work. Even in his school days, he did the same. It is not about
cooking, what I am trying to say is that he did not get love or
support from his mother. He still craves for that motherly
love, that he never got in his life. His eyes got moist when
once my mother invited him for dinner.
One thing you should remember that nothing in astrology
makes sense except in the light of karma and reincarnation.
Why has Saturn destroyed an essential aspect of his life?
Saturn is not the bad guy who is continuously looking for
ways to make you suffer for no reason. Saturn is a karmic
planet. The houses that are influenced by Saturn indicate the
areas, where a substantial karmic debt you have to pay back
in this incarnation. The amount of suffering that Saturn can
inflict on a native is unimaginable. He is the natural karaka of
suffering. But he is giving you back what you deserve. He
punishes you for your bad deeds in previous lives. He does
not have any personal grudge against you. He is doing his
duty. Eventually, these karmic dramas teach us and help us to
grow. There is no better teacher than life.
