for BIO 133 and BIO 134.

Spanish Minor: ***SPN 102 and 106 don’t

count but must be taken if you did not test
out
A total of 18 credits at the post SPN 102/SPN 106 level are required for the Spanish minor as
follows:
Intermediate Spanish:  SPN 201 and SPN 202 (see note below).
Upper Division Language-Skills Courses:  Students will take one (1) of SPN 303 or SPN 304 and
one (1) of SPN 307 or SPN 308 (see note below).
Content Courses:  Students will take two (2) content courses.  The following courses are considered
content courses in Hispanic literature, culture, and/or linguistics:  SPN 325, SPN 326, SPN 327, SPN
329, SPN 331, SPN 332, SPN 363, SPN 364, SPN 381, SPN 389, SPN 391, SPN 392, SPN
399, SPN 406, SPN 426, SPN 427, SPN 430, SPN 433.

Elective Spanish Courses for students who begin the minor at the 300 level:  Students will take two
(2) upper level Spanish courses of their choice.  These may be language skills or content courses.
Note:  Students who place out of SPN 201 and SPN 202 by paper-based placement exam or by
having earned equivalent credits at another institution may begin taking Spanish courses at the 300
level.  The placement exam does not confer credit, and placing out of the intermediate level and into
the advanced level does not constitute a waiver of the overall number of credits required; however
credit for the intermediate level earned for credit at another institution will indeed count towards the
minor.  Students who feel sufficiently skilled in language to bypass SPN 303, SPN 304, SPN
307 and/or SPN 309 altogether may consult with program professors about waving these
requirements; however, a waiver of a language-skills course is not a waiver of the overall credit-
number requirement.  The student will still be required to take 18 credits at the post SPN 102/SPN
106 level.
