REGULAR VERBS

Group A: Voiceless Last Sound of the Infinitive


If the last sound of the infinitive is voiceless, such as p, k, s, ch, sh, or x, you
pronounce the "-ed" ending as "T."
Examples:
help, helped = help(T)
ask, asked
kiss, kissed
watch, watched
finish, finished
fix, fixed

Group B: Voiced Last Sound of the Infinitive


If the last sound of the infinitive is voiced, such as l, v, n, m, r, b, g, w, z, y,
and vowel sounds, or diphthongs, you pronounce the "-ed" ending as "D."
Examples:
kill, killed = kill(D)
love, loved
open, opened
perform, performed
answer, answered
describe, described
change, changed
allow, allowed
realize, realized
enjoy, enjoyed
cry, cried
agree, agreed
die, died

Group C: T or D as the Last Sound of the Infinitive


If the last sound of the infinitive verb is t or d, you pronounce the "-ed"
ending as “ID.”
Examples:
want, wanted = want(ID)
need, needed
