What is PNR status?

The PNR number gives you information about the reservation status and the current status of
your train ticket reservation, the position of the seat/car, and other details about the train and
your journey. For example, if you have a seat on the waiting list at the time of booking and
you want to know if it is moved up the list or if it has been confirmed, you can check the
update of confirmation using your PNR number. This current booking status is also known as
PNR status. You can access the following information by checking the PNR status:

Train name
train number
Coach, seat number, and quota
Date of travel
Reservation status (if waitlisted, RAC confirmed, etc. at time of booking)
Current status (whether waitlisted, RAC approved, etc. at time of checkout)
Ticket fees
Travel class (1 AC, 2 AC, CC, SL, etc.)
Chart preparation status (chart prepared / chart not prepared)
Of station)

How to Check PNR Status Online
If you are a registered user, you can check your PNR status for the train ticket on the official
IRCTC website. Unregistered users can check it through the Indian Railways Passenger
Reservation Inquiry site powered by CRIS.

Step 1: Go to IRCTC's official website https://www.irctc.co.in/nget/train-search.
Step 2: Log in to the site using your login credentials
Step 3: Click "Trains" in the menu bar. Choose PNR Status from the drop-down list. This will
take you to the PNR Status Check page.
Step 4: Enter your PNR number in the box. Click the "Get Status" button.
Step 5: Now, you will get the PNR status of your booking with all ticket information.
Via the Indian Railways Passenger Survey website
Step 1: Access the Indian Railways Passenger Information Site at indianrail.gov.in/
Step 2: Click PNR Status in the menu bar. This will take you to the PNR Status Check page.
Step 3: Enter your PNR number. Click "Submit."

How to Check PNR Status via SMS
Indian Railways also allows you to check your PNR status via SMS if you don't have internet
access. To do this, you must send an SMS to 139 in the format indicated below:
Format: PNR <10-digit PNR number>
Example: PNR 4360393388
You will receive an SMS with your PNR status, confirmation updates, and travel details. This
service is available for almost all major telecom service providers in India, such as Airtel,
BSLN, IDEA, Reliance, etc.
How to Check PNR Status by Phone/Call
You can also check the PNR status by dialing 139 from your phone. The steps are as follows:

Dial 139
Choose your preferred language as instructed (1 for Hindi, 2 for English, and 3 for other
languages)
Press 1 for PNR status
Enter your 10-digit PNR number
Confirm PNR number
PNR status and travel details will be read to you
