Teen Coming Of Age film idea

• My film idea about a teenage girl who suffers from an anxiety disorder that she received as a result of a
traumatic experience in her childhood.

• The anxiety disorder aspect links to the equilibrium of a normal teen coming of age as it shows the
normality of the characters lifestyle

• Is full on teen coming of age

• The coming of age section is through the main character wanting to change the way they live because
they want to feel like other teens, showing that she's going through a difficult time in order to develop
her growth as the character

Font and text
The font and text in any poster will be suited to they way the film is being
represented. The one’s I have selected are a good example of this as they are all
teen coming age films but each on uses a different font style and colour to give the
audience a hint at they way it links to the storyline. I especially like the ones I
have selected because in the first poster ‘clueless’ uses a larger, sparkly design
that contrast to the heart shape that surrounds the characters, implying that the
characters present are resembled to shine and money. The tone of the title
suggest that is meant for entertainment purposes because the word clueless can
suggest someone who doesn’t understand in a joking way.

• The second film poster ‘teen beach movie’ font design was another one that I
really liked and this was because the colours matched well with the background
and tone of the front page. The uses of green suggest the palm trees that are
placed on the sides of the page and the 2 shades of blue being symbolised for the
sky and the sea. This is a good idea as it creates a nice positive atmosphere that
reflects the genre chosen.

• The third film poster ‘barely lethal’ design was different to the other two posters
as the other ones have the name of the film in bold and large font as well as
making them extremely noticeable in their own ways, clueless making in
diamonds and sparkle, teen beach movie with the colours that represent the main
setting ‘the beach’. However with the third poster the name of the film is barely
lethal but they’ve put it underneath the slogan and made that the centre of text
instead. I really like the way they’ve done this because it focuses on the
characters and the design imaging rather than the actual text.
Image effects
• The images on any poster will be different depending on the storyline of the
film. The first film poster ‘princess diaries’ portrays Anne Hathaway dressed in
a tiara, a princess dress, headphones and sunglasses. The over dressing of
combining multiple different accessories suggest that the character is confused
with her identify and is trying to live as both styles. I really like the way the
creator used simple accessories to symbolise the idea of confusion as well as a
key convention that is always presented in teen coming of age films and that is
showing she is going to struggle with something to make her life better.

• The second image ‘maze runner’ is very different to the first one as the princess
diaries film poster had a positive atmosphere to it this one has a more
mysterious and adventurous atmosphere instead. The male actor is placed as
the central image in a strap over his clothing, which is something you would
usually have on if you wanted to travel lightly to be able to run but still have
things on you like weapons. His clothes are dirty and rough suggesting the teen
coming of age convention of him going through something that is gonna change
his life later on. This obviously will be a different type of problem to the first
poster as the way they have presented the image suggest one problem is
physical and the other is mental. I really like this poster because most coming of
age films feature girls so this one is a nice change but also because the poster
always feature a female in trouble emotionally with the things or people around
her.

Layout
The layout of all three posters I have selected are done in a very similar way.
The three of them are done in a America school next to a bunch of lockers. The
posters include all the main characters or ones with multiple screen time and
lines with the female lead centred in front of the title. They did this to indicate
what the title is directing to so in the film poster ‘the duff’ the main female
character is placed directly in front of as the word ‘duff’ stands for designated,
ugly, fat, friend and she is challenging this to make her life better. The poster
‘tall girl’ is done with the tall female lead is placed next people who are shorter
than her indicating that her problem is accepting her height. Sierra burgess is
a loser film poster uses the female lead in this film and placed her in front of
the title indicating that she could be sierra burgess and this will follow her
story. I like the way they’ve laid out the settings of the films in a simple way
that the audience would automatically know that this film will be a teen
coming of age.

Overall conclusion
These film poster I have chosen represent some
of the things I wish to replicate and take
inspiration from to create my own with. These
posters specify with a long shot/ mid shot of the
protagonist in front of the crowd she will be
interacting with in the movie suggesting the
importance of their body language. The poster
all include multiple people that are slightly
aligned behind the main character showing
that the story will follow the lead. These
aspects from the poster are something that I
would want to think about using as it is a clear
similarity between the teen coming of age
genre. The two poster of ‘barely lethal’ and
wild child’ focuses more on the characters than
where it is set. I might want to include this as
the setting in my film are limited so when
thinking about the background I could make it
resemble either the characters personality of
their lifestyle.
