IMPACT OF COVID-19 AS A LAW STUDENT

The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a number of challenges. It changed

human behaviours, relations and lifestyles, and had great impacts on the economic,
political and cultural landscapes of societies. Education is no exception. Schools
were directed to close as a response to lockdown measures imposed by the
government. As a result, it caused a dramatic disruption in the conduct of
conventional teaching and learning of students. Despite the challenges, schools
made concerted efforts to maintain the quality of learning of students during this
period through online learning. Law schools, in particular, were given discretion to
implement alternative and innovative methods of learning, such as, distance/remote
learning, provision of entire course content, problem-based learning, and other
creative or innovative methodologies.

As a student of law in this time of COVID-19 pandemic, various

adjustments have to be made on how to deal and cope up with the new platform of
learning. Due to lockdown, the school implemented distance/remote learning with
the use of internet connection. Initially, when the said method of learning was
adopted by the school, there was uncertainty on my part if distance learning was
an effective method to study law. After the system was in placed, gradually,
everyone was able to adjust with the new form of teaching. However, the unstable
internet connection was a major concern in the implementation of the distance
learning. There were classes to be cancelled or stop in the course thereof, student
was forced to absent or cut-off in the middle of the class due to poor internet
connection. Extra efforts have to be exerted to catch-up and understand the topics
that were discussed. But due to the complexity of some laws, there were times the
quality of learning suffers. Because of this, it created a huge challenge for me on
how to survive and pass each subjects, including emotional distress, sleep debts,
and mental anxiety that it brought.

Despite the negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, it also generated a

positive impact on my part. It made me realized to be prepared and ready to deal
any changes and adjustments that might take place in my journey as a law student
and life as a whole. The importance of keeping abreast of the current innovation on
technology and the appreciation of internet connection in this time of pandemic.
But most of all, the value of a healthy mind and body. The study of law takes a toll
on one’s health which leads to a higher chance of infection of the deadly COVID-
19 virus. Thus, with the anxiety and stress that this pandemic produced and the
pressure that comes in the study of law, it led myself to practice a healthy lifestyle.
