1.0 GENERAL

This technical specification covers the Fire Alarm System, which is a part of
Fire Protection system provided for the 2 x 800 MW YERAMARUS STPS to
be set up by Raichur Power Corporation Limited at Yeramarus, Raichur
district Karnataka.
The design & installation of Fire Alarm & Detection system for the subject
project has been designed as per the specification requirements & comply
with the latest applicable Indian/British/American standards/codes. The
following standards/codes shall be followed in particular:

a. TAC Manual - Manual of Tariff Advisory Committee of Insurance Cos. of

(India)

b. NFPA Codes - National Fire Protection Association Codes (U.S.A.)

All the systems are designed in such a way so as to make the system
complete and acceptable to TAC/nominated agency of insurance companies.

2.0 INTRODUCTION OF FIRE ALARM SYSTEM

A Common concern is shared by all Automatic Fire Detectors/Detection

methods. The criteria is to detect a hostile fire early enough to allow for
effective counter actions i.e. evacuation of persons or extinguishment of Fire.

The Fire Detection and Alarm System will provide instantaneous Audio Alarm
when Fire is detected, in order to prevent loss of life, property and valuables
etc by warning inhabitants in the affected premises immediately, so as to
obtain necessary help from Fire Fighting and Salvage Staff.

The Fire Alarm System may be activated by automatic detection devices or

by manual operation. Fire Detection and Alarm System performs the function
of monitoring the areas from Fire continuously and giving an Audible Alarm in
case of sensing of “Fire”. The sensing of the Fire is accomplished through
various types of detector/LHS Cable/I.R. Detector etc. “Fault” is the detection
of short circuit or open circuit in the Detector loop. Various areas are provided
with the adequate number of Detectors for continuous monitoring.

Addressable, Microprocessor type. The System consists of addressable
Multi-sensor, Photoelectric Smoke Detector & Heat Detector which
checks/detect any abnormal change in Smoke, heat level. These detector
then give signal back to the Fire alarm panel which then actuate the
corresponding output devices (Sounder & Relays) as programmed to take
appropriate extinguishing measures.

The System consists of addressable Multisensor Detector, Photoelectric

Smoke Detector, Heat Detector & addressable Manual Call Points. In addition
to these, Response Indicators and Loop Sounders have been provided at

5.0 SYSTEM OPERATION

In the event of fire inside any of the protected area, the detectors will sense
the fire and give signal to the Fire alarm panel which then actuates the
corresponding output devices (Sounder & Relays) as programmed to operate
the fire extinguishing systems or provide necessary audio alarms. The exact
location where the fire / fault generate will be displayed on 5.7” TFT display
Card LCD display of Fire Alarm Panel.

Manual call points are provided floor-wise near exit/staircase for the various
buildings provided with fire alarm system. The addressable Manual call points
are provided for the manual operation of output devices as programmed

All the CABLE GALLERIES are protected by MVW spray system and are
provided with both digital type LHS cable & combination of intelligent Multi-
sensor & Photo-electric smoke detectors. On detection of any abnormal
change in Smoke, heat level by detector, the Fire alarm panel gives the
location of the area on the TFT. The FAP then actuate the corresponding
output devices (Sounder) as programmed. When the fire has been confirmed
by the operation of two detectors (cross zoned) and from LHS Cables, then
Fire Alarm Panel operates the designated deluge Valve. After actuation of the
deluge valve, the “DELUGE VALVE OPERATED“ signal will appears at Fire
alarm panel.

The LHS cables installed in the galleries detects the overheating generated
due to the burning of cable & send the signal to the Fire Alarm Panel, which
then actuate the designated deluge valve for extinguishing the fire. Deluge
Valve Operated signal appears at Fire Alarm Panel with the help of pressure
switches mounted on the deluge valve.

The CONVEYORS are protected by MVW Spray System and are provided
with digital type LHS cable & I.R. Detector as per the specification. The I.R
detector mounted on the specified conveyor detects the moving fire. On
detection of the fire it stops the conveyor, thereafter the LHS cable detects
the overheating generated due to the burning of coal & sends the signal to the
fire alarm panel, which then actuates the designated deluge valve for

extinguishing the fire. Deluge Valve Operated signal appears at Fire Alarm
Panel with the help of pressure switches mounted on the deluge valve.

The Fire Alarm Panel FAP#1 in TG Building Common control room unit-1 and
Fire Alarm Panel FAP#2 in CHP Control Room will be provided with
computer, Monitor & all accessories such as video display unit, keyboard and
printer for the Graphical Display & monitoring of all the areas which are
protected by the Fire Alarm System. It gives us the detail of the sensitivity
level of the detectors & the record of Fire & trouble conditions stored in the
VDU. The Monitor will Display the Graphical representation of all the areas
protected by Fire Alarm System. When any of the Detector, MCP, Monitor
Module, Control Relay Module, LHS (Connected with Monitor Module), and
I.R. Detector (connected with Monitor Module) operates the indication of the
corresponding device and the area will flash on the Graphics of the PC.

The PC based Central Monitoring Station with printer will be provided at TG

Building Common Control Room and also CHP Control Room.
