“Colona, IL, where the people
run 100 miles to get here.”
Suddenly, I saw it. Hennepin
100 has a rock star finish line
complete with chute, personal
record bell, an enormous
American flag and the best
part – the Colona fire station
with cots and showers for all.
The pandemic may have
delayed the race for a year,
but it was worth the wait.
Volunteers are knowledgeable,
always smiling and eager to
assist. Aid stations are well-
stocked, with drool-worthy
food including pastries, pizza,
pulled pork, soup and tacos.

On the last weekend


in September,
more than 300 runners and volunteers the running community, with legends,
convened in Buena Vista, Colorado, for beginners and locals alike geared up to
the inaugural West Line Winder and take on the blissful yet unrelenting single-
Sawatch Ascent 50Ks. The West Line track loop.
