Movie review of the film: Before I fall

I. Five parts of the plot:

I.I. Exposition (introduction)
 The story starts when Samantha, the protagonist, wakes up on the 12 th of February. Sam seem to have everything in her life – popularity, wealth,
looks, family, friends, and long-term relationship with her boyfriend. Based on how most people sees it, she has the ideal life that most people are wanting to have.
At school, she seems to be doing well as she is equipped with everything that she needs. No one seem to be bothering her as well, which makes her life more
perfect and comfortable that it already is. In fact, she is admired by most students in her school. It’s just that she seem to have failed to notice every beautiful
things around her. Though she is living with the aforementioned things, she somehow fails to notice how important those things and people are. She was so
complacent with what she has and has never even thought of a moment losing it, hence, she forgets how to show importance. Some of her flaws that she has aside
from the mentioned statement is her being a bully to one of her batch mate/classmate. She, alongside with her friends are always picking on the girl on their
school.
I.II. Rising Action
 The film starts to show the main idea of the story when Samantha died on a car crash with her friends on their way home from the Valentine’s Day
party. However, it does not simply end there. After Sam’s death, she woke up in the same day of her accident. She was, in fact, shocked as well and is in lost as to
how she ended up waking up after the tragedy of her death. At first, she thought that it was a dream but then when her little sister shows up in her room and said
the same thing to her, she started wondering more. The same thing happened in her school and at the party so she started getting real scared as to how it all
happened. At the end of the same day, she died on the same time and location. This tragedy happened over and over again. Samantha kept on relieving the same
day of her death every day. So, she decided to observe and scrutinize the happenings on that day in order to find out what went wrong. Then, she started to act
differently the way she did, thinking that this may have a difference on her death. Unfortunately, no matter how much she change or no matter how much she lure
the events to happen, she still ends up waking up on the same morning of her death.
I.III. Climax
 At the peak of her constantly changing her actions, she later on found out that it was all related to Juliet- the girl that she and her friend bullies. She
had an idea that she was one of the primary factors that provokes the accident to happen. However, it was not concise as to how did Juliet actually caused the
accident. Then, she realize that it was after she and her friends had a heated argument with Juliet. After arguing, Juliet ends up walking out and went to the woods.
She eventually ended up committing a suicide by crossing the street exactly when a truck is passing by. Then, this eventually led to the truck hitting the car of Sam
and her friends. Hence, this is when Sam decided to plan and convince Juliet to refrain from doing such suicide so that she and Sam herself could stay alive and
resolve the problem.
I.IV. Falling Action
 On the day that Sam is planning to execute her plan. She was quite adamant as to how she will try to convince Juliet since they were both not close
and are in fact enemies. On that night, immediately after the fight, Sam went on to follow Juliet. She tried and chased her but the girl was in distraught as if no one
could possibly stop her from what she is planning to do. Samantha eventually got a hold on Juliet’s arms and tried to talk it out of her. They had an argument as
well as Juliet is saying that none of what she’s planning to do matters to Sam since she hated her from the beginning. At some point, Juliet was able to let it out of
her chest whatever grudge and pain that she is holding against Sam, her friends, and some of their batch mates.
I.V. Resolution
 Samantha thought that when Juliet was finally letting out her anger, this would come to the resolution of their conflict. However, after such
argument, Juliet went on and ran on the streets. Sam did not stop though. She ran after her and when they are on the streets and the truck is fast approaching, Sam
pushed Juliet to save her. Thus, Sam ended up dying for the sake of saving Juliet. She later on realized that morale of that moment of her life. She was so
preoccupied of staying alive and has eventually come into realization that it was the moments of her life that should have been valued and well-lived. What she
does every moment and how she treat the people around her was all that it matters. Then on, she accepted her fate. It may not be a lot but at the very least she tried
to make it up to the girl that she once despise the most.
II. Setting
II.I. Place
 The story first takes place in the house of Sam as it started from her waking up on the morning of her death.
 The second setting is the school where majority of Sam’s personality and identity was almost completely revealed.
 The third setting is the part at the house of Sam’s classmates.
 The last setting is in the woods and in the high way where the accident has taken place.
II.II. Time
 This has happened at around early 2010 and not later than 2015. No exact year was mentioned but given the setting and their use of technology and
presentation of modern houses and school, one could decipher that this may have taken place on the said years. However, in terms of the day when Samantha was
relieving her death over and over again, it has happened on the 12 th of February.
II.III. Weather conditions
 The weather was kind of gloomy on the morning Sam wakes up, which makes it appropriate to the mood of the whole storyline which is quite
devastating. Aside from it being gloomy, the cold weather has embraced the characters in the film to match its sadness.
II.IV. Social conditions
 Samantha was fashionable with no doubt. She dresses based on trendy clothes. Though she has this attitude of being a snob to most people. Like
her friends, she is what most people sees as “entitled”. Like Lindsay-sam’s friend who is the perpetrator of bullying Juliet, Sam also bullies the said girl even
though she did not do anything to her. Moreover, Sam is also not that grateful for the people around her. She usually gives a not so pleasing attitude to her family
and even ignores her childhood bestfriend as if they had nothing to share with back when they were kids.
V. Mood or atmosphere
 At the beginning of the story, one could really feel the devastation and pain with the atmosphere. It is neither a happy one nor a scary one. All
throughout the story, it is as if the characters are well-embraced with the tragedy that they will encounter.
III. Characters
Samantha- Protagonist-Dynamic/Developing Character. Sam has changed her perception and attitude as the story goes on as she was able to come into
