Physical examinations

Inspection. An organized examination of a patient’s physiological state as compared to


what is understood to be normal.
Palpation. Is the examination of something by touch
Auscultation. Is the examination of something by listening with or without an
instrument such as a stethoscope, for example internal organs
Percussion. Is the act of tapping on an area of the body such as the chest or
abdomen to determine the condition of the underlying bone or tissues.
Affect. Is the displaying of emotion through facial expressions, movements, etc.
Auscultation. Is the process of examining the body by listening to its internal parts.
Body build. It refers to the overall appearance and shape of a person´s body.
Consent. Is verbal or written permission for something to happen
Demographic. This data is personal information such as age, sex, and nationality.
Inspection. Is a visual examination of a part of the body.
Objective data. Is health information that an observer can see and test.
Palpation. Is the process of examining parts to the body by touch.
Percussion. Is the process of examining the body by tapping various parts.
Subjective data. Is health information that only the patient is aware of. This includes
things such as pain or itching.
Diagnostic tests
Pathology report. Is a report that discusses what was found after cells
and tissue were examined.
Creatinine. Is a waste product found in blood that the kidney usually
removes.
Albumin. Is a type of protein found in the body.
BUN test. Is a test to determine the amount of urea nitrogen in the
blood.
Blood test. A blood test is a laboratory analysis performed on a blood
sample that is usually extracted from a vein in the arm
GFR test. Is a test to determine how much kidney function a person has.
Biopsy. Is a medical procedure in which a piece of tissue is removed and
examined to help determine an illness.
Urinalysis. Is a test that examines a urine sample.
CKD. Is a medical condition in which a person loses kidney function over
time.
Thyrotropin test. Is a laboratory analysis performed on a blood sample
that is usually extracted from a vein in the arm
Blood glucose test. Measures the glucose levels in your blood
Diabetes: Blood sugar test
Diabetes is a condition where the body is unable to break down glucose
from sugary or starchy food so it can be used for energy. This leads to
high levels of sugars in the blood, and can lead to weight loss, extreme
thirst, nerve damage, coma and death if left untreated.
Breast cancer: Mammogram
Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in the UK. It affects
one in nine UK women at some point in her lifetime. Cells in the breast
tissue which have DNA damage and grow abnormally can become tumours.
Colon cancer: Colonoscopy
Colon cancer is the third most common form of cancer in the UK, after
breast and lung cancer. DNA- damaged cells inside the large intestine
(colon) grow abnormally and form tumours. Colon cancer can be difficult
to diagnose because it is internal, and can present many symptoms
common to other digestive diseases.

Cerebrospinal fluid. Fluid that surrounds the spinal cord and brain
Imaging. Tests that provide a picture of the inside of the body
Endoscopy. Is a procedure to look inside the body, using an instrument
Cytoscopy. Procedure to examine inside the urethra and bladder
Laryngoscopy. Endoscopic test to examine the voice box
