Pressure tank and pump settings
2
1. We utilized a 1 HP water pump which we believe has enough
rating to set the pressure 60 to 80 psi using the pressure switch.
Based on our experiment, at least 60 psi can provide better MIST.
2. We used a bladder type pressure tank, setting the air pressure
about 58 psi, 2 psi lower than the minimum pressure.
5 3. We added a foot valve which avoids the solution to return to the
4
container.
1 6 4. Similarly, we added a swing valve after the pressure tank to avoid
the solution from returning. (optional)
5. The primary purpose of the main control valve is to allow the flow
of the disinfectant only when needed.
3 6. A union valve can be added for easy separation of the pipe line
between water pump and container. (optional)

Piping Structure and Components
2
3 1 We recommend that you use ½ inch PVC pipe.
PVC fittings for ½ inch are mostly available in local
2 hardware stores.
For specific components, see recommendations
below:
1. Requires one (1) plain 90-deg elbow and one
4 (1) threaded 90-deg elbow.
1 2. Requires one (1) plain tee pipe and one (1)
3 threaded 90-deg elbow.
5 1
3. Requires plain 90-deg elbow.
6 4. Requires one (1) plain 90-deg elbow and one
(1) plain tee pipe.
5. The drain pipe with control valve can be used
7 4 to remove residue after using the cabin. This
needs one (1) plain tee pipe.
6. Main line may require pressure gauge to
monitor the pressure flowing through the
pipe. Our recommendation is to check the
pressure gauge and maintain the pressure at
60 psi to produce better MIST (works well on
our setup). This needs one (1) plain tee pipe.
7. A control valve is needed here to control the
flow at the bottom nozzles.
 Note: You may need solvent cement to
connect the PVC pipe and fittings.

1. We recommend to place 6 mist nozzles.

Four (4) nozzles at the top and two (2)
nozzles at the bottom.
2. It is recommended that nozzles should be
tilted to optimize the use of the
disinfectant.

 Note: In our experiments, this setup seems

to work better. Thus, we highly recommend
you to follow the nozzle position.

Nozzle setup

1. You can use any locally available nozzles,

Nozzle however, it is recommended to use smaller
Adapter
nozzles to produce MIST with lower
Threaded elbow
pressure.
2. In our experiments, we used brass spray
nozzles with 1-hole, 1/4” inlet diameter.

Wall curtains
Materials: Eyelet
• Thick plastic sheets
• Curtain Eyelets (#22)
• Cable Ties (big)
• Double-sided tape

1. Cut the plastic sheets into lengths that should be

enough for your curtain to touch the floor.
Normal curtain
2. Place the eyelet under the plastic sheet through the
hole, insert the ring, bend the shaft outward and
lock it using a hammer.

3. We recommend strip curtains at the entrance and

exit while normal curtains at the side.

General Instruction: When Entering the Cabin

Exit Entrance

1. Several persons can enter the cabin but requires at least a distance of 1 meter between
each other.
2. Crossing from entrance to exit will expose you to the disinfectant approximately for 10
seconds.
3. It is recommended that disinfection should be done by batch to save the amount of
disinfectant used. For example, 50 persons can line up and enter the cabin one after
another, observing the 1-meter distance from each other.

Disinfectant Solution #1: Anolyte solution process
Anolyte solution is the solution obtained at the anode of electrochemically activated water.
During Electro Chemical Activation (ECA) of water, a dilute saline solution is “activated” by
passing through a cylindrical electrolytic cell in which the anodic and cathodic chambers are
separated by a permeable membrane. Two separate streams of activated water are produced:
Anolyte with a pH range of 2-9 and an oxidation- reduction potential (ORP) of +400 mV to
+1200 mV. Anolyte is an oxidizing agent due to a mixture of free radicals and has an
antimicrobial effect.

Schematic diagram for Anolyte production

The anolyte solution produced can be directly used for the disinfection cabin.
Disinfectant Solution #2: Preparation of 0.5% sodium hypochlorite (Zonrox®) solution

Raw material needed:

• Household bleach (Zonrox ®) is approximately 5% sodium hypochlorite.

1. To make 20 liters of 0.5% solution for disinfection cabin operation, pipette 100 mL of
commercial Zonrox® solution and then mix this to 20 liters of distilled water.

2. Alternatively, a graduated cylinder can be used instead of a pipette to measure the

volume of Zonrox®.

3. To make 1 liter of the same solution for handwashing purposes, pipette 0.5 mL of
Zonrox® solution to 1,000 mL or 1 liter of distilled water.

Note:
• 0.5% household bleach is the alternative disinfectant for Anolyte solution since
Anolyte is difficult to produce immediately.
• This concentration of bleach is based on WHO advisory on a possible disinfectant
alternative when soap and alcohol-based rubbing alcohol are not available.
• However, the person to be disinfected must wear face mask, goggles, long-sleeve shirt
and pants to minimize exposure of the disinfectant to the skin.
• In the case of medical staff, full PPE is required.
