When Oroquieta became a pueblo and parish in 1887 under

the leadership of its first pastor, the Recollect Friar Tomas

Casado, together with the construction of the church,
convent, municipio, escuela for boys and girls, planting of the
acacia and calachuchi trees, Padre Casado and the people of
Oroquieta built a structure that would eventually become the
landmark and identity of the town – the Kiosk.
