In line with the Filipinos acknowledging the local music,

quality and content are the main reasons behind these growth.
Songs created by native musicians are made with passion that
makes it more pure and engaging. Here are some rising and
new OPM artists to check out with their own unique
explorations; Over October is a four-piece alternative band
formed during their college days in Ateneo De Manila
University. They released their first EP last 2016 entitled
“Free”. The songs of this band can swept away tiredness and
easily refresh minds through their chill acoustic with a mix of
pop-rock vibes which is perfect playlist if going on a road trip
or having an amazing day. “Never Stop”, “Lovestruck” and
“Mr. Sun” are the perfect songs that would fit a chill
day. Carousel Casualties is a band consist of four members.
This band is versatile when it comes to song genres, they can
do jazz, funk, blues and pop. Song recommendations are
“Leona”, “Always”, “San Junipero”. Also another four-piece
band, Munimuni is a product of University of the Philippines-
Diliman. Their songs contemplate about life and love. With the
powerful vocals, lyrics and instrumentals, a lot are captivated
with this band. When in need, songs such as “Tahanan”,
“Marilag” and “Kalachuchi” are great escape or even way to
heal from a wound. Entering the Viral 50 on Spotify for their
first single “Colors”, indie-band Meryl is a new band to check
out too. Their songs speak about intense feelings of deep
affection that would be perfect as a soundtrack of everyone’s
love story. The band haven’t released their second song yet but
based on the music video, the second song would be the next
chapter on the series of the story created from their first song.
Their synthetic pop-rock vibes captures the heart of many.
Another rising artist is Bandido,a homegrown talent of the
sintang paaralan, Polytechnic University of the Philippines.
Their songs including “Nanlaban”, “Unemployment”, “Arcie”,
tackles about social issues such as war on drugs,
contractualization and poverty. Their rock and roll style
catches many early OPM fans that reminisces them of
Eraserheads, Kamikaze and Siakol. These emerging talents of
